New to CSA/What questions

Been in the apnea world for 12 years. 

Recently diagnosed with CSA, so another study was done a week ago because the machine I was given was not working. Still having events. Awaiting the report on the results. 
The technician said when I asked how did my brain do?, 'You finally went into NREM towards the end of the night.'
I understand the words, I just have no idea what that means.

I know you all are not  Sleep neurologists, but you are experienced sufferers, so I ask: When I meet with the sleep specialist in about a week, I wonder if you have any suggestions about what I might ask or point out in addition to:

No cardiac complications in history
No pulmonary complications in history
Do I still have OSA?
I was misdiagnosed for two years with Narcolepsy
I have recently been diagnosed with Acquired Brain Trauma. I am in Neuro Visual Therapy for this.
Had a non-TIA -TIA on 12/6/22; all the indicators flashed red, and no blockages were seen in the scans-
  feel like that was the tipping point into CSA. 
My exhaustion has rendered me practically nonfunctional. I have no skin between me and my emotions anymore. 

Is this where I shut up and just listen?

Are you currently using your ASV machine? If so, would you be able to download and post some OSCAR charts? There are links in my signature that explain how to install it and what a properly formatted chart would look like. We have people here with ASV experience and they can be a significant help in finding settings that work for you.

I am not qualified to comment on your medical issues, so will leave that to those with more experience.

One thing worth considering is getting a new or used smart watch, something like a Fitbit Inspire, Charge 5, or other low cost smart watch. That would give a decent breakdown of sleep stages and also O2 during the night. That may be of use to your medical team.

BTW, NREM is non-rapid eye movement. It is like REM, but without the low muscle tone.

I don't have a new machine yet. The ASV they ordered after my test in January,  which I received 8 weeks later, did not do the job, so I have no access to the data you suggested. I had another study done last weekend. Now, the report has to be analyzed by different doctor, because mine has no appointments. That is in two weeks. Then comes the order and then the time to get it...The ASVI currently have and doesn't work is the only one I will have until the new one is Rx'd, and that won't be for another two weeks or so. So, I am basically winging it.

What ASV do you currently have? ResMed Aircurve 10 ASV or other make/model?

What do you mean by “does not work”? It does not turn on at all or no green light when plugged in? Or it is not configured correctly?

If this is the ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV this is the gold standard in Central Apnea therapy. I've had one but my lung disease made it the wrong choice.

does not make me breathe when I stop. I still am having events.  I am not clear about what I will get that will be different from what I have.

The machine is to help minimize events when it's set properly. This is possibly the issue. So if the ResMed AirCurve 10 is an ASV, we can help you set it to help.

First, identify exactly what you have. ResMed AirCurve 10 is most of the info but not all. There will be a gold name on the lower right of the machine. What does it say?

Regardless of machine for a second, most users will need to access and set the machine for themselves. On this ResMed, you can access the clinical menu by clicking and holding the Dial and Home button at the same time for about 5 seconds. The screen will then display Mode, followed by pressure, etc.

Thank you for your offer of help. 
The MD had sent the settings to NORCO, my DME provider,  who entered them and then verified the accuracy when I called saying that there wasn't enough ramp time and it felt like a 737 engine was blowing in my lungs.  
The MD then pulled a two-night report, and I saw I was having CNA episodes that were contrary to the settings the outcome of the previous sleep study established as optimum.; thus the second sleep study a week ago was ordered. 

I have an appointment on 5/6 with the MD head of the Oregon Sleep Clinic (whom I have never met) to receive the report distilled from the most recent study. I will,  among other things,  query what the technician after the study stated, '' there is a massive amount of data" that needs to be distilled. I will find out about the presence of OSA as well as CSA, as the ResMed was showing 5 events per evening, which I feel is inaccurate insofar as an overall total. That may have been OSA's which is great but doesn't address the CSA report; conflicting data to resolve.

Once I hear his opinion on the best way forward, with what machine and settings, and why, I can bring that information back and get your opinion if you care to share it.

OK, when you have tests done, make sure to request your copy of the detailed report. You're in the US, HIPAA law says you are permitted to receive upon request. If the doctor refuses, you can report this to the medical board. No on this request isn't acceptable.

You'll be asked here to post this data, which you will redact your personal info. There's members here that can decipher the data very well. Main reason for saying we'd like to see, is so you get the best machine suited to your needs and we can help with settings.

You also have a say in the machine brand and the DME supplier. It's normally not no choices for either. Best brand is ResMed.
