BiPAP Auto or ST?

Hi,

After a few months of no improvement I now have a Rx for a BiPAP machine and will be dumping my CPAP. My Rx is for a BiPAP S/T, but I can get a really good deal on a new PR system one BiPAP auto. Would that by good enough? I had a high number of Central Apneas at my sleep study (37%) which is why I'm switching, but was wondering if I really need the S/T.

As I understand it, the BiPAP is mainly for COPD and severe OA's. A BiPAP will not address CA's, in fact it will make them worse. You need a S/T or ASV to address Centrals.

S/T stands for spontaneous/timed. It provides for a longer inhalation cycle ensuring your get a full breath in spite of restrictive lung disease or other problems. It also provides for providing a breath when you don't spontaneously take one. It is a far different machine than BiPAP auto or S. If your prescription is for S/T a regular bilevel will not likely work. Is the purchase out-of-pocket, or another hardship?
