Sounds like you had a sinus go ka-powie. It happens sometimes with scuba divers.
Once it clears up you should be ok for a long time afterwards.

Unless someone knows of this re-occurring?

I think aspirin thins the blood, as does Vinegar, as does vitamin E, as does cinnamon and cinnamon tea. If your blood gets too thin, you may tend to get nose bleeds.

My Dr. put me on it because my father died at the age of 44 from a heart attack.
I'm going on 56 now, so I'm going to stay on it

Got the packing removed today and they cautorized as well. 4 nights without my machine was a killer.

I feel your pain! Back in February I woke up 3 mornings in a row with severe nosebleeds and 2 of the 3 days, I had to go to a ER to get the bleeding stopped. Had to have blood vessels in my right nostril cauterized twice and also did the packing thing on the 2nd visit to the ER which was very painful. Only had to keep it in there for a few hours though as I saw the ear/nose/throat specialist the same afternoon for the 2nd cauterization.

I actually went off my CPAP for several weeks as I had difficulty breathing with the mask on and was afraid that it might have been contributing to the condition by drying out my nasal passage. For me, I slept fine without the CPAP, or at least I felt like I did which is the same as how I thought I slept prior to starting therapy a couple of years ago. I "sleep" through the night as I've never waken up during the night gasping for air. However, I'm certain the quality of my sleep wasn't the same as I went back to old patterns of being extremely tired during the day. I also had to move to the guest bedroom during this time because my loud snoring that wakes my wife at night returned without the mask.

Happy to say I've been back on CPAP for about a month now and things are back to normal again. I was told that I had a deviated septum which I never knew and that it was probably a contributing factor to the nosebleeds. E/N/T specialist said at first that I might require septoplasty surgery which sounded awful researching it on the internet. But during my final visit, he cleared me and said he didn't think the surgery would be necessary as things were healing well.

The main thing I'm doing now is keeping my nasal passage moist by using saline spray and an ointment that he prescribed to me. The ointment is called Mupirocin 2% and if you can get some, I highly recommend it. It helps to keep scabs from forming and causing mucous buildup inside the nostril which is what leads to the nosebleeds when you remove them.

I had to do a 2nd cauterization. Supposedly, the ENT guy said it was in a different location than the 1st one which was probably true because the blood flow was different the 2nd time. Even after the 2nd one, I did have small amounts of blood for a couple of weeks. I'm sure yours probably told you not to blow your nose for at least 2 weeks as mine did. It basically has to form an initial scab over the wound and then the Mupirocin supposedly facilitates the healing of the tissue around it so that you don't get repeated scabs and mucous buildup in that location. I read where you have unsuccessfully tried full face masks. (Don't blame you, a Quatro FX almost took my nose off with pressure sores), but you MAY want to consider a TOTAL face mask. You can keep it handy for colds, stuffy noses or any such emergency.
I keep the FitLife on hand. This HUGE masks engulfs your face. It covers the eyes, nose and mouth and basically runs around the perimeter of your face.
You do need to keep the room cool because the air can feel a bit warm, but it allows you to breathe through your mouth without having to have ANYTHING on your nose.
