Post Nasal Drip
Hello all,
I have been diagnosed with sleep apnoea and have as yet to buy a machine.
I was wondering if anyone suffered with post nasal drip and whether this is contributing to my apnoea I forgot to ask the specialist about this .
Any thoughts please ?
Lorraine
RE: Post Nasal Drip
If anything, you have it backwards. Your OSA is contributing to your PND. Before I started CPAP, I would walk up each morning and my head (seemed like the entire thing!) slowly dripped down the back of my throat for an hour of gagging, coughing, spitting etc. Since I have started using the machine this has reduced to almost nothing.

My experience is the same as chill.
For many years, going thru absolute hell after getting up in the morning. Gagging so much, sometimes throwing up in the shower or in the car. Dry heaves. Great way to start a work day.
Cpap put an end to that sh!t!
You won't look back.

I really hope so but it is the muscle fatigue that is the killer for me!!

It can be performed two to four times a day either with a nasal douche device or a Water Pik® with a nasal irrigation nozzle. Warm water with baking soda or salt (½ to 1 tsp. to the pint) or Alkalol®, a nonprescription irrigating solution (full strength or diluted by half warm water), may be helpful. Finally, use of simple saline (salt) nonprescription nasal sprays (e.g., Ocean®, Ayr®, or Nasal®) to moisten the nose is often very beneficial.

Well I have been using the machine for 10 weeks now and have been happy with my low AHIs except for the last 3 nights when I was unable to breathe through my nose due to post nasal drip. Strangely this problem was initially there the 1st week but petered out .I am back to needing a sleep during the day.
Also all my AHIs are CSAs

I still don't know why this has reared its ugly head. I have some phenergan tablets I shall try.
This is so frustrating as I have to take the mask off and not use it during the night
I have a BMC machine and Sleepyhead software is incompatible.
