CPAP Software File "not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous"

CPAP Software File "not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous"
With new browsers and Windows 10 becoming more prevalent on new personal computers, we're getting a lot more folks reporting that upon downloading ResScan, EncoreBasic or SleepyHead, their web browser reports that the zip or exe installation file is "not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous".

This seems to be occurring with both the newer Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge web browsers.

This is Google's and Microsoft's way to "warn" you that these files have not been downloaded by a lot of people, and therefore Chrome or Edge can't determine if they are "safe" or not. It's happening more and more with a lot of completely safe and virus-free files, but the warning keeps popping up as a "false positive" of sorts.

We created a webpage notice that explains this a bit, here:

http://www.apneaboard.com/warning-message.htm

From that web page:

Quote:Using the Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge web browsers?

After using Chrome or Edge to download the zip or exe file, you may get a "warning message" stating it is "not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous". This is a generic warning from Chrome and Edge about downloading "unknown" zip or exe files. Of course, ResScan, EncoreBasic and SleepyHead are neither viruses nor malware, but it's a good idea to run your own antivirus scan against this or any executable files that you download from any source. If you see this message in Chrome it will show a "discard" button. If you wish to use the downloaded file, simply change that "discard" option by clicking on the drop-down menu (down arrow) and select "keep" this file.
