[CPAP] first sleep oscar
#1
first sleep oscar
Hi, yesterday I received the resmed autoset 10 in the mail and please find attached my first sleep results in OSCAR. In the machine settings I've only changed the "pressure min" to 6 as specified on the wiki, everything else remained as default. I recall I woke up flailing my arm at the dark (had the crazy idea I was being attacked) and checked my phone for the time at around half past 3am and the display read pressure was 11, which then I attempted to sleep some more for a few minutes but the pressure was overbearing and generally felt too anxious to try and sleep again. Any help to interpret these results would be highly appreciated, thanks.  Smile

RE: first sleep oscar
Welcome

That's not too bad for a first night.  How about if for tonight you set your highest pressure to 9.6?  You will need higher later, but let's see if that helps you sleep through the night or at least for a few more hours.  Then we can reevaluate.

Again, welcome, and good luck with your new therapy!  Smile

RE: first sleep oscar
Hello! Thanks for the warm welcome to this forum.
Even though the night previously to last was more of the same as before, last night despite waking up a few times (possibly "marked" on purpose by briefly lifting the mask off, I recall 2-3 instances) went by I think pretty smoothly. At first when going to sleep pressure min 9.6 was somewhat troublesome (without ramp as I was testing a looser mask fit which helped,) but when I woke up it was perhaps 10.7 which felt nothing out of the ordinary. I'm guessing the next step is potentially increasing the min pressure, maybe between 11.1 to 12.2 based on a glance at the average pressure.

I think I would leave your settings where Deborah suggested for a few more nights and see how you do.  The Clear Airways should go away in time.  Actually, you are doing quite well for just starting CPAP.    Good luck.

RE: first sleep oscar
You slept almost seven hours. That's a big improvement! Like Steve says, stay at your present settings for a few nights, post charts, and when you feel ready, we'll increase the pressure.

Hi it's a me again but I'll be honest, I didn't use the cpap machine last night because every day I have used it I'd wake up two to three times in the span of 7 hours. Waking up in fear. And I thought the day after the chart attachment was bad (the day prior, it was one of those that practically required a nap) but today without the CPAP the overall feeling physical and mental is much worse haha, despite longer uninterrupted consecutive sleep hours.

Interesting reactions to the Resmed A10 autoset, some folks have mixed feelings using one like myself when I first started using them about 15 + years ago. (I was a terrible snorer & drove the family bonkers sometimes.)
Some folks new to Cpap will sit in a chair during the day just watching TV or reading while the machine is working to get familiar with it, how it sounds, leaks and just  over coming any negative thoughts that something is going to happen when using it .
I had the house power go off one night and I knew right away(breathing was a little harder) and just woke up with not to much anxiety to wait for the power to kick back in.
Once you get a mask that works decently stay with it and it is not a big issue anymore when using one. Your charts look reasonable and will just improve over time! Thinking-about
