Well, I certainly hope the security on these cellular modems is better than that average security on medical devices, but there's no reason to think that's true. I am really uncomfortable with the idea that anybody with some spare time on their hands could watch every breath I take while I'm sleeping. Yes, this is supposed to be restricted to the DME, the insurance company and medical professionals, but a cellular modem has an IP address, just like any other networked device. If you find that address, and poke with the right tools you can surely get in.
My sleep doctor asks me for my SD card every time I have an appointment, so now that I have passed the qualifying period, I leave Airplane mode ON. Yes, I get asked if I want to turn it off every time I do anything, but that just reminds me that I'm not leaking this part of my private data on the internet. That's actually nice. No one is going to reach in and change my settings for me.
