Can you open your mouth with CPAP and have no mouth leak?

Can you open your mouth with CPAP and have no mouth leak?
Dear all,

First post for me on this forum. Currently reading a lot as I see many users with comparable questions/issues, so no need yet to share my full story. So much experience!

I started (again) to optimize my therapy (on it for over 2 years) as I still feel fatigued every morning. I will probably post my history with some questions to optimize my therapy later. Currently I am increasing my pressure to see the impact on my therapy. Last year I was on APAP 7-8 cm H2O.

What I noted today at my current set pressure APAP 8.2 - 9 cm H2O (with Resmed N20 nose mask), that I can open my mouth and no air will escape (this was in the high 8 pressure region). I tried turning and moving to get air out, but to no avail. Not worried, just a new "experience" ;-).

Just wondering if this is "normal" and if it can tell me something that may be helpful for me therapy.

Your tongue goes to the roof of your mouth and cuts off air coming but many people have the muscles relax when you sleep and the mouth and tongue drop down and air escapes. Some people have practiced enough to keep their tongue up when they sleep and even with the mouth open do not have a problem with mouth leaking.

That's not a very wide pressure range. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen one that narrow. I really urge you to post your Oscar charts so we can see what's going on. We can probably make you feel a lot more rested.

I doubt it has anything to do with your therapy. It's just that you've adapted to the point that you can do things like this. When I used to use a nasal mask I was able to talk while wearing it, but only after I'd been wearing it for months.

Stacey nailed it.

In addition I can talk, drink, and even eat with a pap on and no leak. I can also intentionally open and close it so I can both blow air out and even stop it by choice.

Why drink and eat, only to prove it could be done.

I started as a pure mouth breather

Thanks for your answers! I was just curious, but I am not going to try to eat and drink with a mask ?.

I agree I should post, in a new thread, my struggles to get advice what to do next. I am "OSCAR capable" so I will share my therapy results with pretty pictures.
