Difference between nasal mask, and full face mask setting

Difference between nasal mask, and full face mask setting
Hello,

I accidentally used a full face mask with the nasal mask setting, and I oddly got different and better results than with the full face mask. Could be a fluke or due to other reasons, but does anyone know what these settings do?

Thanks

The nasal mask setting will push the air harder through the hose so to speak. The reason is that a pillow mask has smaller air holes meaning more restriction so therefore the machine has a pillow setting that will push the pressure on inhalation harder/faster.

Its logical if you see better results because this setting is likley to help push open the airway a bit more. Its similar to raising the pressure in its effect.

The downside is that the leak rates will not calculate properly because pillow masks and full face masks have different vent flow.

I was told today by a respiratory therapist to set the Resmed F40 airfit (hybrid full face mask) to pillow mask setting- she said "they want us to" not sure if that meant the manufacturer- anyone else with the F40 told the same?

The ResMed Airfit 40 is supposed to be set at the pillows setting, but some who use it find they like it better when set at the full-mask setting. I think whatever helps people get the best therapy and comfort should be what they use.  Smile

I have an AirFit F40. The next time I use it, I'm going to leave the setting on FFM.

It will be interesting to see your results. Do you breathe through your nose or mouth? I have a new F40 mask and prefer to breathe through my nose. Occasionally, mouth will open but I don't want to use tape or chin straps. My setting is pillows and my first night I had 35 AHI's in the first hour and a half, while still awake!
