Do you think throat exercises are beneficial?

Do you think throat exercises are beneficial?
I was wondering if any of you have tried throat/tongue exercises. I would like to be able to reduce my events (57 AHI on sleep study) so that if I am caught sleeping without the machine it won't matter so much. So, in other words, I'm not thinking that exercises could eliminate the need for the cpap, but just reduce the AHI. I would really like it if I could go into the moderate category, rather than be severe, for the rest of my life. I've gone to several sites that recommend them, but am a little leery. I would definitely try it though, if any of you could give me a thumbs up. (My ENT doctor told me he was sure my tongue was the problem.)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

whether or not they would help depends on the state of the muscles in question, and the reason for your apnea. If it is an oversized base of the tongue, I would expect not. They can't hurt anything though - worth a shot.

Tongue Suck Technique for prevention of mouth breathing:
  • Place your tongue behind your front teeth on the roof of your mouth
  • let your tongue fill the space between the upper molars
  • gently suck to form a light vacuum

Practising during the day can help you to keep it at night

RE: Do you think throat exercises are beneficial?
hi there...

I have practiced singing/throat exercises for a couple of years now, they have reduced my snoring quite a bit, maybe even 50%, but are time consuming and you have to do them for a long time to get any benefit, especially in a case like mine where I have had snoring/apnea issues for most of my 66 years.
I would for sure give them a shot, well worth it even if its just to reduce the power of the snores.... Smile

All the best...

I sing with a symphony chorus and almost never snore. I still have apneas, hypopneas, some occasional clear airway and RERA events and am still tweaking the settings on my machine. I'm also titrating up on a new Rx for migraine and I think it may be affecting the apnea.
