Just Started CPAP/APAP- Still Sleeping like Garbage
Hello!
To give a brief overview I have had sleep problems since my early teens (10-12). I'm 29 now. I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea this past June (although almost all of my apneas are central). What made me finally pull the trigger on a sleep study was that I was actually able to fall asleep but I would wake up multiple times a night or even sleep through the night but be exhausted.
I'm obviously new to CPAP (have been using for about 2 weeks). I know it's going to take time to adjust and understand the fatigue I feel will not go away overnight but I'm wondering how much me not sleeping well is due to getting used to the CPAP vs. needing adjustments or even exploring other options (BiPAP, ASV etc.) I'm still doing a lot of research so apologies if some of this is common knowledge. I only have 1 night of data from OSCAR but wanted to post what I've read could be relevant as well as a summary of my at home sleep study. Unfortunately insurance wouldn't authorize a titration study so currentlly using my CPAP is being used as an APAP.
I'm waking up multiple times a night with the CPAP (before I would wake up 1x, now waking up 1-4x a night). My biggest question is how much of this is normal/expected and how much of this is related to needing to adjust my machine or potentially exploring other options. From my understanding a CPAP is not always the right fight for central apnea so I'm wanting to be as informed as possible. I'll be making an appt with my PCP and will continue to upload data to OSCAR (I currently only have 1 night available).

RE: Just Started CPAP/APAP- Still Sleeping like Garbage
Since about half your apnea events are central, both during that sleep study and during CPAP therapy, as a first step consider editing CPAP settings in 2 areas: 1. Nix the Ramp 2. Increase Min pressure up to 6 to see what happens and to get you a bit more air.
It might need to increase more later. Part of what needs addressed is reduction of pressure swings, hence removal of ramp as that will likely increase CA. If the CA cannot be controlled, however, it may force you to get the ASV, which specializes in CA therapy. Things may not progress to that though, so take it one step at a time.
