Dry mouth even using mouth tape

Dry mouth even using mouth tape
I’m happy with my Bleep mask but don’t know why I am awakened with an uncomfortably dry mout even though the seal on the mout tape is intact. Does anyone have thoughts/ suggestions?

Which tape are you using. I use the Cover roll stretch tape and it is not air tight. It for sure cuts down on leaks but air can still get through it and still result in a dry mouth.

Some prescriptions cause dry mouth.  If you take any you might check to see if any of them cause dry mouth.  I get dry mouth from a medication I'm taking.  I too use Bleep and mouth tape.  You can use lozenges and such to help with dry mouth.  I used to use Xylimelts before I taped, but now when I do I apparently slobber and that causes the edges of the tape to let air out.  But maybe it would work for you anyway.  I'm going to try Biotene liquid soon, right before I put the tape on.  If it works I'll let you know.

Even with mouth taped, I wonder if some air still gets into the mouth from the CPAP pressure.  I use the cover roll tape with my P10 and sometimes my mouth is still sort of dry even with that.
Have you tried increasing  your humidity setting?

I also have a full face mask, and sometimes use that - everything feels much more moist with the full face mask to me compared to my P10s.
I find I dont need as high a humidity setting with the FFM compared to the nasal pillows, for some reason.

I did try the liquid Biotene.  It made my mouth moister but again caused leaking.  I think I am going to just have dry mouth, as I think that is probably better than leaking.  I hope you find something that helps you.

Hi, I tape my mouth and also still have a dry mouth. I use OraCoat XyliMelts Dry Mouth Relief Oral Adhering Discs to keep my mouth moist. They work well.

Good luck!

I know this is an old thread but I'm going mad. I've had my cpap for over 9 years. I just started having a major dry mouth issue.

I've always used a humidifier.
I've always used a chin strap.
I recently tried mouth tape (seriously strong) but the issue persists.

I just read that cpap pressure can override pressure of salivary glands, but that has never been an issue before, why now?

Only thing I can think of is it did start around the time of a new medication that I believe can cause it, but it only happens at night, regardless of when I take the med. I can't image a medically caused symptom can be limited to a specific time frame everyday like that.

I'm at a loss here. I can't take it anymore!

Hi, I know how you feel.

Taping used to work great.

Started with 3M micropore, then CoverRoll, which was the best. Fine for more than two years. Then about 6 months ago, started leaking. Doubled up tape, slightly better, Pressed even harder to fix it down, better again, but after a few weeks, back to square one. My leakage was from the side, tracking along some facial lines (creases) I reinforced this area, no go, so on and so on...frustration.

Eventually I found this, (see attached) 3M Medipore tape.

A US company, but tape manufactured in Italy, but don't know if it is available in the US.

Works a dream BUT impossible to take off. However Deborah K came up with the idea of  Milk of Magnesia for removing tape, but unfortunately equivalent not sold here in liquid form.
Importing is just too expensive.

So, long story short, if this Medipore tape in available in the US, plus Milk of Magnesia "tape remover", it may work for you.

I am now on FFM,

Regards

I use cover roll tape. It helps to be relatively clean-shaven, and sometimes I wipe my mouth area before applying the tape with a baby wipe, or even with a paper towel moistened with 70% rubbing alcohol. I rarely have any mouth leaks.

I too have tried the chine strap but still blew out through my mouth sounding like a horse.

I used Micropore tape from amazon.  easy to remove and latex free. but I've found amazon has dynamic pricing....a 30 day supply was $9.98 and 3 hours later $13.95.  I bought at $13.95 then when it came time to order more it was $15.98.  I found very almost identical tape on ebay.  Just square not curved. for $10.50
for 120 pieces.  I bought that. Since I have to pay for this out of pocket.  The VA won't cover it.

so check around and good luck.
