Finger Probe with CMS50H
Dear all,
The dealer where I bought my oximeter just informed me that I will receive a 50H instead of the 50D+ I ordered at first.
I read on the COMTEC website that the CMS50H can be connected with an external finger probe.
Has anybody done that before?
What kind of connector does it use?
Thank you!
RE: Finger Probe with CMS50H
I think the the 50H will come with its finger probe. It will probably look like the one pictured with the 50F of I.
I am not familiar with the 50H, and am not sure if it is supported by SleepyHead directly. The Contec software probably creates an SpO2 file that may be readable by SleepyHead.
For what it's worth, the 50F and I models have been used with SleepyHead, and are preferred.
The 50D+ model is clunky and can slip off the finger while sleeping, Ask me how I know...

I have a CMS50I and it works great with Sleepyhead; haven't even heard of the H, but I bet it is similar as far as connectivity goes. The downside with the I (and the F?) is that you can't connect your probe and your computer simultaneously. But the probe on the F/I should more accurate than the D+ due to the relatively more secure connection to the fingertip.
But I do wish I could do the live feed off of it, which you can with the D+, just to get that extra bit of info (plethysmograph) as I suspect that my breathing volume is not great. I've been looking at constructing a cable splitter that allows one to connect the probe and the computer to the wrist device, but I've not found a ready-made one. But I've got an idea with adapters and a standard usb splitter that I'll try out in the next couple of months (total cost, about $10-20). I'll report back if it works.

No such animal as a USB splitter cable; must use a USB hub, what you're calling a standard USB splitter. Yes, those are inexpensive and available everywhere. For best results, make it a powered (active) USB hub. Whether the power is needed depends on the current draw of the USB devices, so it's possible that an unpowered hub would work, but I wouldn't even bother getting the numbers; I'd just make it a powered USB hub (with an AC wall wart), which is more generally useful, and call that George.

Take a careful look with an illuminated magnifier... You'll see that the probe connector is double-sided, with contacts on both side of the little tongue. It must be a very custom connector stuffed into a mini-USB shell.
Sorry about that...
And I think the new 50D+ with the pseudo-microUSB connector doesn't have the real-time connection to the computer any more.

Oh, that's a bummer. I guess ya get whatcha pay for, as with a lot of other electronics ... only the overpriced pulse-ox products that are sold to clinics rather than patients have all the fancy features and connectivity?
