[Equipment] My Oxygen Concentrator May May Have Died
#1
My Oxygen Concentrator May May Have Died
I've been using a Respironics Everflo-Q with OPI to induce Oxygen into my CPAP flow since 2009.
I have over 20,000 hours on it. This morning, before shutdown, I noticed the yellow Oxygen Purity Indicator was illuminated.
It's probably just worn out.

Odd thing is: I just replaced the intake filter yesterday.
So, As I get into the day, I'll have to check to see if that filter is OK.

Most likely I'll be buying a new machine.

Good luck! Too bad there are not just replacement parts for the generator.

Try running it without the filter for a little while.  If it works without the filter you will know that it is the filter causing the problem.  Kind of a coincidence that this happened right after you changed the filter.

That is exactly how mine acted when the filter plugged up.  Maybe you got a defective filter...

RE: My Oxygen Concentrator May May Have Died
I find it odd that it seems to have died right after an intake filter change.
I received a knock-off filter from a supplier. Might be made incorrectly

I'm running it right now. It takes a few minutes for the OPI light to come on.
So, I'm sitting here; and Mrs. Mongo reaches over and shuts it off. Grrrrr.

The OPI light still comes on with the intake filter removed and no load on the outlet barb.
Since the red light remains off, the info I have indicates it can still deliver 82% oxygen.
I just ordered a new machine.

This one has given good service: about 8 years and 20,000 hours run time; I cannot complain.

I'm glad they are fairly long lived. I'm looking at picking one up for use with an EWOT (Exercise with Oxygen Therapy) set-up so I can work some more on the bike engine (me). Assuming it is well cared for, then a used one might be an option.

They have an hour meter on the side. Look for low hours.
I just found out that 20,000 hours is the life expectancy of the zeolite that separates nitrogen from oxygen.
Mechanically, mine is still working. It is just not putting out the specified 92% oxygen. The yellow alert is set around 80%
So, I got my money's worth.

I have the same model you do and about 2 months ago the service required light
came on. I unplugged it and looked at the filter and the filter still looked clean so
I hooked it back up and it's been working ok. I know you can get these repaired
but wonder how expensive that is or if it might tbe best just to have another sleep
study done so I can get a new prescription and let my insurance get me a new one.

RE: My Oxygen Concentrator May May Have Died
I got an informal quote of $150 to replace the tanks that contain the zeolite. Apparently they call them sieves.
The place I communicated with is east coast. If I can find someone more local who'll do it for that price, I think I'll have it done.
I would then have a spare. The compressor and 4 way valve are the 2 other major components; and they still function.
