That's awesome that you were abe to sleep that well your first night. It took me two months to get that far. But like you say, that's all in the past. I feel great now. You should celebrate your success. Some people take to CPAP therapy like a duck to water. You are one of the lucky ones.
That AHI of 5.3 is great for the first night.
You should update your profile to show that you have the S9 Elite at a pressure of 12. That's a great machine.

Murf,
Many, many congratulations!
Enjoy the energy and clarity. It's great to hear someone who's adjusted quickly and is feeling such a benefit after one night.

RE: Disappointed with Doc, am I asking too much??
Murf,
Hey, congratulations!
However, if you haven't already done so, you should keep a copy of the sleep report and keep a photocopy of the prescription, for your own personal records. A photocopy of the prescription will allow you to deal with anyone you choose for future supplies. If you did not keep a photocopy of the prescription, it is your right to obtain a new copy of it. (They can mark it a copy, if they want, as long as they give you one.)
Also, I suggest you keep an eye open for any opportunity to change to a more responsive medical group in future. In my view they are not deserving of your continued patronage.
That being said, unless your insurance allows you to quickly and easily change to a new sleep medicine group, in the meantime take advantage of every opportunity to see your sleep doctor and show him reports you will be able to print out, and discuss your treatment results. You can share them here with the forum, too, before you show to your sleep doctor, who may be too busy to notice what the reports show, unless you point out the areas of concern to you.
Take care.

Begging your pardon for replying to an old thread. I am a new member here, and just started my therapy 2 nights ago, and I have been reading through many threads on here learning as much as I can.
I just wanted to tell you that your post actually brought tears to my eyes! I felt some of the same frustrations in getting through the initial diagnosis process, and I share the same feelings of hope and positive outlook as I start this new part of my life.
Thank you!!

Edit: lol, I see I just responded to a 4-year old thread that got bumped.

They have their procedures and I need to understand that, but I just want t feel better!! I basically could have written the same thing, welcome to the world of US healthcare. It took me months just to get my test, than after I got it and was diagnosed as severe and just wanted my damn cpap machine it took me another 2 weeks, the entire process was insane and unacceptable. In my case I explained to them that I had experience episodes where I woke up choking, others where I felt like my heart was leaping out of my chest, and also feared that I may have suffered a small stroke due to it. NONE of this created even the slightest sense of urgency on their part.
The good news is this will soon be over.
I have done everything possible to take my care out of my doctors and DME's hands (while still using doctors whenever I need them) and into my hands.
Hell, I'm dealing with this insanity again right now, it's reached a point where I know every game that will take place before it happens. In a few weeks I am seeing a spine surgeon. He's going to ask me if I have an xRay or MRI of my spine. Then he's going to order one and tell me to come back in another few weeks to see him. But can I get someone from his office to order the xRay or MRI now so I have it before I see him? Of course not, that would make actual sense. Probably against some insurance rule too.

Karl Welcome to the forum Karl! I was also beyond excited to start my cpap treatment. The diagnosis finally answered so many questions about things I had battled for years and years.
It sort of kills me when I see people ranting about being diagnosed or not wanting to bother with the "horrible machine". Don't get me wrong, I totally understand and might have felt the same way at a different time in my life. But for me the diagnosis was an answer and I was thrilled it's such a treatable condition.

I have expressed my opinion on our(UK) healthcare system in no uncertain terms previously, it amazes me that the service you are getting either via insurance or hard earned cash, same thing really, is no better than our socialised system.
Best of luck.

Since switching to my new insurance plan of "Visa" and "internet", I've been getting phenomenal service.
I wanted a new machine and it arrived in 3 days. A new mask? Same thing.
Pressure not quite right? Talked to a few people here a while back and it's spot on.
I still see my sleep doc once a year just to "keep my foot in the door" in case I need something odd at some point (no idea what) but all he says is "You're doing great! See you next year!"

RE: Disappointed with Doc, am I asking too much??
Good one Terry, the new insurance plan!
We are paying for this second rate service through our taxes, and I expect better. I have paid for a private consultation with a neurologist, and intend doing so with an apnea doctor, though they are all out of the same mold, therefore the service will be much the same just quicker.
Were it not for the the requirement to get a decent set of readings in order to get my driving licence returned, I would likely throw the S9 out of the back door and take my chances.
RE: Disappointed with Doc, am I asking too much??
Very sorry you had that experience, though I also found similar problems with my first sleep doc and lab.
Do not be afraid to fire your doctor or DME. It's great that you've already had your studies and are on the road to success, but if working with someone else would improve your life, make the switch!
(My first doc was nearly impossible to get in to see, so I don't feel so bad about having fired him - clearly he's got enough business to keep him busy.)
