Feeling defeated...

RE: Feeling defeated...
MorningGirl, the number of obstructive events still leaves you in the severe category for sleep apnea. It's very unusual to see this, and I have little doubt it may be related to your surgical history. The normal recommendation for obstructive sleep apnea is to increase pressure. I'd like to try something totally contrarian. Your chart says you are not using ramp. The first 30 minutes or so of this session sure looks like ramp, but if it is not, then the lack of events at a pressure of 7.0 is real, and gives us a message that it is the higher pressure that causes your problems. To find out, you would need to set your minimum and maximum pressure to 7.0, or use CPAP mode at 7.0 instead of Autoset, and see if that solves some problems. This is kind of a long-shot, but if that first half hour is an indication of your response at lower pressure, then we may have an answer. Also, you are currently using EPR at 1, and I would not have any problem having you set that at 2 for some additional exhale pressure relief.

With obstructive apnea in Autoset mode, your machine would normally reach the maximum set pressure of 16. The For Her mode is preventing the machine from reaching the maximum pressure for the repeated apnea. So, if we find the limited, lower pressure approach does not work, we may need to allow pressure to go to 20, and use the standard autoset mode. I'm optimistic that something good could happen at low pressure. Good luck.

I am not sure if I'm doing it right or not, but here it is again. 45 AHI is mind-blowing when I compare it to other members' numbers! I'll be making phone calls first thing tomorrow morning to find someone in Boston who can help me.

Thanks again for your help, everybody.

Try Beth Israel Deaconess. After 5 years of suffering under the "care" of a local sleep specialist I made the trip in there and had a amazing experience. He didn't just tell me because my AHI is 0.0 I'm fine and I should just take antidepressants. Explained to me that AHI of 0.0 might be meaningless, especially the way my ResMed machine determines it. Of course I now have to wait for another sleep study before he can actually do anything for me, but for the first time in years I have hope.
