RE: First night
Sounds like you did well, except for those bumps. When I get up in the night I just unhook the mask from the hose - takes only a second. You certainly may turn the humidity up until you're comfortable. It would use very little water at a setting of two. The sore throat may be from mouth breathing, if it continues to be a problem you may want a chin strap. As to the stale smell- smell the distilled water and make sure it smells good and is fresh. I'm in Virginia where the humidly is moderate and I don't use a humidfier with pressure from 10- 14 and feel less congested than with the humidity. You did good not to take the mask off. Soon it will be second nature and you won't consider sleeping without your mask.

RE: First night
I agree, humidity is different everywhere, and what works for me at home isn't what I do when I travel. Every room is different, so turning up the humidity is fine, just do it a click or two at a time, til you find what you like. For instance, mine is turned up most of the way, and my chamber is usually almost empty every morning.
The sore throat *may* be mouth breathing, or could simply be caused by the increased air-flow. It takes time to adjust to change. It sounds like overall you did very well last night, and the key is to do the same every night. Create a pattern, and stick with it.

RE: First night
Hi Jason,
You could turn your humidifier up a notch and see if that helps you, but if you keep having problems, you might consider getting a chinstrap to keep your mouth closed during sleep. It's great to hear that you did pretty well for the first night, just hang in there and stick with it.
