the perceived result (to the patient) is an increase in pressure followed by a "test" resulting in a backing-off of pressure.
I actually stopped at the beginning of my last sleep study because the PR Omnilab Advanced they were using was set with NRAH. The lab people didn't know it. I politely asked for a manual manometer and showed them. Every time it happened, there was a pulse of 2cm for about three seconds -- up, hold three seconds, down. Perhaps under different circumstances it may go as high as 3cm. The lab tech wouldn't believe me until I showed it to her. She was clueless as to how to stop it and said it didn't show up on the graphs, but she couldn't deny that they had something happening that they didn't know about. She called the sleep center director in the middle of the night to find out what to do. She said there was no way to turn it off. Needless to say it was a frustrating study that didn't titrate me very well. It was only afterward that I found out it was NRAH.
