Combine different gear ?
I have been trialing a philips dreamstation with the new dreamware pillow mask. I have had it for 2 weeks and my apnea’s are around 3-5.
I really can’t afford to buy anew machine. My partner has a resmed 10 he no longer uses. I feel would like to buy the philips mask and use it on the resmed 10. Can l do this? How? Thank you

RE: Combine different gear ?
G'day Andreaw2. Welcome to Apnea Board.
Yes, you can mix and match different brands of masks and machines. The hose / mask connection is standard. Which model Resmed 10 do you have? Some models are better than others, though Resmed is generally regarded among our members as the superior machine.

Thank you
It’s an Airsense 10. The fitting on the Phillips hose to the resumed machine are different. I assume you can get a connector?

RE: Combine different gear ?
There are a number of different Airsense 10 models - CPAP, Elite, AutoSet, AutoSet for Her. The name is printed near the lower right corner. The CPAP isn't recommended as it provides only very limited data (which you need to optimise your treatment). The AutoSet or the For Her are the best options.
Hoses come as heated or non-heated. Given the current weather here I think you should go with heated! (What a horrible day it's been). The non-heated hoses are interchangeable but you can't use a Philips heated hose on a Resmed machine. You need to have a heated Resmed S10 hose. However the other end of the hose (where the mask attaches) is standard.

But if you are referring to a heated hose, then you would not be able to use a ResMed heated hose on a Respironics machine or vice versa. Welcome to Apnea Board!

RE: Combine different gear ?
Yes, the end of the heated hose that attaches to the mask will fit any brand mask.
But the ResMed heated hose will not fit a DreamStation machine.

RE: Combine different gear ?
Thank you!
I also have a question about my possible machine. My partner purchased a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset, which doesn't appear to have wifi, about 4 years ago. Everything I google about that model tells me its a wifi machine. Does anyone how if resmed made a model of the Airsense 10 Autoset WITHOUT a wifi module? And whether I can buy a wifi model to suit? I'm in Australia, so it may make a difference? Also anyone know about claiming health insurance rebate when purchasing a new cpap device in Australia? Looks like I have to pay upfront, then try and claim it.. but can only be claimed through a sleep specialist with referral letter.

RE: Combine different gear ?
None of the ResMed AirSense 10 line have WiFi. There is a module installed that uses cell phone technology to load data on the ResMed site for use with their MyAir and AirView systems. Some of us use WiFi sd cards in the CPAP machine to access our data from our computers remotely.

RE: Combine different gear ?
As Mitch said, there isn't a wifi module for the Airsense. It will have a mobile phone connection to Resmed's MyAir system, but that's not a great deal of value really. To get the best out of these machines you need to do some fine adjustments and MyAir doesn't have enough data to do that. So we recommend Oscar , which is a really good free software you can download by clicking here: OSCAR That will give you lots more information than MyAir and many of the members here can help you interpret the output.
To use Oscar you need to have an SD memory card in the machine, just like the card in a camera etc. I suggest you get a new card from JB HiFi or Hardly Normal or similar outlet. Get the smallest capacity they have (usually 2 or 4Gb) which will be plenty. The idea is that your machine writes detailed data to your card every night. You then put the card in the computer and Oscar will read in the data and give you a graphical display. Don't forget to put the card back in the machine afterwards! Some members have wifi cards and use special software to connect their machine wirelessly to their computer, but I suggest you just get the basics right first. This will depend entirely on your health fund and which table you're on. The rebate varies between $300 to around $900 depending on the fund, so that's not a lot back. If you don't have extras or ancillary cover you probably won't get anything back. Talk to your fund and see what their specific requirements are. |
