RE: If the CPAP works for you, what is your expected AHI ?
It's incredible the number of people this simple trick has helped to dramatically reduce AHI without increases in pressure. Equally impressive is how much some people will resist trying it. Glad to see you got positive results.

I got tired of the chin strap (which was marginally effective and horribly uncomfortable) and jumped at the idea of the collar when I read the suggestion.
A world of difference, and my TMJ, compounded by my misguided attempt at a mandibular device, and still irritated by the chin strap, has completely stopped bothering me.

I was in shock to read the AHI this morning : 0.0 . It has been almost 2 years since I first used the CPAP and this is the very first time I got this reading !! As I mentioned in my last posting, I still have to solve the air leakage problem . For the past 3 days, in addition to the soft cervical collar, I have swiched to the ResMed Mirage FX Nasal mask and the AHI readings has been steadilly going down since , culminating in the big "Zero" reading this morning . I am attaching the last 3 records for your comments, just to make sure I am not dreaming in technicolor with the AHI readings ! Thank you so much for your compassionate help ...

Your suggestion is indeed a life-saver ! Thanks a million, CB91710 !

You have come a long way since you started. Congrats on the low AHI readings, and looks like your leak rates have improved too.
The only thing is the many breaks in your sleep during the night. Do you know why you wake up so much? Mabye that will improve with time. I wake once or twice during the night, but I almost never turn off my machine to get up. I just roll over and fall asleep again usually pretty fast.

Each time I woke up, I used to turn off the machine to stop the air flow, readjust the mask if need be and turn on the machine again which I guess that it is not necessary. O.K. I'll let the machine running from now each time I wake up ...

Have you ever tried a different mask?

I switched to the nasal mask ( i.e. ResMed Mirage FX nasal mask) just 3 days ago . Before, I always used a full face mask ( at the Dr's recommendation as I often breathed through the mouth during sleep). Drastic change in AHI readings started with using the soft cervical & the nasal mask !

It seems to happen too often that the individuals I coach to improve their results end up with lower AHI than myself. Amazing change and congrats! I like your decision to not turn off the machine for minor adjustments. Now that you are sorted out, hopefully you will hang around and help others to recognize the clustered pattern of OA and restriction that can be helped with a soft cervical collar. Mostly it seems to be a matter of getting comfortable and making it work for you.
