RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
There is already a review on YouTube. Why do they insist on using the divided nostril hole... unfortunately it hasn't been tested yet with high pressure.

RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
It was time for my resupply. Went by my DME today to pick them up, and he had just gotten in the AirFit 40. I came home with one. I'll use it tonight.
I've been using the F&P Evora for the past year. It's heavier and larger than the AF 40 (3.7 oz / 2.7 oz). The biggest difference is that the cushion doesn't have any hard plastic and is all silicone and very flexible. I've run the mask fit trial a couple of times. It was comfortable and I was able to adjust so it didn't seem to be leaking. Will know in the morning. I saw a couple of pretty detailed reviews on youtube that were consistent with what I've observed so far.

RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
Wore the F40 mask last night for the first time. I thought it was very comfortable and kept a great seal all night. Interesting enough, my ahi was 1.4, the first time over 1 in a while; however, I felt my sleep was pretty good. I did change the mask setting to 'Pillows' as suggested by ResMed.
So far so good, the mask allowed me to sleep on my side comfortably, more so than the F30. The comfort reminds be of the F30i, but without the constant issue with mask leaks.

RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
I got a new F40 mask yesterday. I tried it last night, and here's my impressions.
First, it's light. At first it seems kind of cheap, but really it's just much lighter than either the F20 or the FP Evora and it's noticeable. Second, it's comfortable. The fact that it's light makes a difference, but also the fit is really good. Like the F20 (but not the F30 or FP Evora) it has plastic extensions for the upper straps. The result is that the upper strap sits lower on the head, and so it has very little upward pressure. The F30 and FP Evora both pull the mask up into my nose when I tighten them down. That causes nose soreness. Third, because the cushion had no plastic on it (the only plastic is the frame itself where the cushion attaches) you can really crank it down tight and it doesn't hurt. See point number 2, but it's definitely more comfortable, at least for me. Fourth, it's pretty quiet. Didn't notice air blowing all over the place as you do on some masks, especially the FP Evora. Finally, it's not bad at high pressures, but it's not great either. I have a bi-pap I'm trialing, and my pressure averages about 20 (14/6). I had a few leaks last night. They were manageable, but they did wake me up a few times. Overall, if you like the F30, you'll probably love the F40. For me, it's still a tie between the F40 and the FP Evora, but the F40 is winning slightly. I need some more time on it to properly judge. Coincidentally, I had a session this morning with my DME to test some other FFM. They recommended the XL headgear on the FP Evora as it sits lower on the head (the adjustable top strap is too short on the standard headgear for me). That seemed to mitigate one of my complaints about the FP that it pulls my nose up. I'll try the new headgear on that at some point in time to see if it makes a difference....

RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
I asked my DME to try and get me one as I I am in first month of CPAP and am permitted another mask within that time frame. They are unsure whether they can get it as they just got an email on it Monday.
I really hope I can get one as it is the start to allergy season here and though I am okay with my Dreamwear nasal cushion I want a ffm to use when allergies get the best of me l. Fingers crossed she can get it sent to me! SheShells23 ~ Not all who wander are lost, some are just looking for the perfect seashell ~

RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
how adjustable is it? Or does it come in different sizes?
You can cue up the zippy-the-pinhead jokes now, but I have an unusually small head. (About 10 years ago I discovered children-sized eyeglasses. Life changing experience!!) If I take the F30i out of the package with the straps at their factory-default setting, the mask ends up UNDER my chin! I use a dreamwear headgear with the F30i frame and cushion and it works pretty well.

RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
cathyf they have three sizes each of the frame, the headgear and the cushion. I've seen these bundles on web-sites so far:
For me, the headgear is a bit too large (standard), so I might try a small, but i'm also concerned the small would be too small with the strap over the head. It seems to be too early for the DMEs to have them in stock to try a mask fitting, but with the choice and flexibility you might want to try that. Or just go ahead and buy them and see for yourself...

RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
The F40 continues to impress me. It made everything better vs. the F30, F30i. Seals easy, no strap marks, and comfortable at any pressures.

Well, it was just in time as you were struggling with the F30i bouncing with changes in PS.

RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
I am confused by the terminology - probably because I have never had a FFM or Hybrid mask that has a cushion which separates from a frame (as opposed to just from the headgear). I currently use the F30i, which just has the cushion and headgear.
If I understand it correctly, the F40 has a cushion, a frame (which holds the cushion), and the headgear. Are all 3 purchased separately if not purchasing a full mask kit or when getting replacements? And do all 3 have sizes? I can understand why you would choose a specific size of cushion and headgear, but I don't understand about the "frame". Does it always match the cushion size, or can you use, for example, a small frame with a medium cushion? According to Resmed: The cushion comes in Small Wide, Medium, and Large. The headgear comes in Small, Standard, and Large. The frame "system" (frame and cushion) comes in Small Wide, Medium, and Large When referring to purchasing bundles such as "Standard Frame with Medium Cushion" or "Small frame with Medium Cushion", does "frame" in this case actually mean "headgear"? Or does it actually mean the frame itself, and the headgear is always just standard size unless you purchase a different size separately? |
