Turning the machine off can corrupt the card if the machine is in the process of writing to the card in just the same way as removing the card while the machine is writing to it.
My view is that the best suggestion is to allow the machine to write its data to the card by waiting a few moments after stopping the night's therapy before removing the card.
I don't know about the Resmed but my Respironics machine puts the words 'Data Card Activity' (or similar) on the screen while that is happening.
