Why do I wake up? I wear earplugs, live alone, the room is dark and cold, I don't drink, I don't have caffeine after noon, I exercise moderately almost every day, am a normal weight...(33, M)

Low AHI - Why do I wake up?
I have used my ASV for five years. It is way better than nothing, and my AHI is almost zero most nights, but I wake up ~4 times a night. I fall back asleep within a few minutes, usually after a small snack, glass of water, and/or peeing.

RE: Low AHI - Why do I wake up?
Another detail I thought I'd add: for the first five years, I was using an actual ASV. I recently bought a VAuto and used airbreak.dev hack to turn it into an ASV. As far as I can tell, this worked perfectly. It does make me wonder if I should try other algorithms, perhaps VAuto (ironically enough).

RE: Low AHI - Why do I wake up?
Waking up during the night is a normal part of sleeping. If you really did fall back to sleep a couple of minutes after you wake up, and you did that four times a night, that shouldn't affect your feeling rested the next day.
But your breaks in therapy, and your description of what you do when you wake up, suggest a pattern of behavior you need to change. You are staying awake for longer than a couple of minutes, and since your total time in bed appears to be less than 8 hours, you are probably not getting enough sleep. Try limiting your fluid intake starting about four hours before bedtime. And when you wake up, resist the urge to pee, drink water, and snack -- unless you really need to pee. Just roll over and wait to drop off again. It may take you some time to change your pattern, but I think you'll really benefit from it.

Other than apneas, I may wake from:
Mask/headgear/tubing irritation mask leaks
I only give suggestions from experience as a fellow CPAP user, not professional advice.
