Lung Cancer and my ResMed AirCurve 10
I was just diagnosed with lung cancer and I DON'T SMOKE!! Back in 2022, when I woke up one morning from using my ResMed AirCurve 10, the water tank was empty and the metal plate looked burned with metal filings around it. My first thought was, "Did I breathe that crap last night?!?" I contacted my provider and they gave it a cursory review and said it was fine and they would give me a new water reservoir. I said forget it! I want another machine in case microscopic pieces from the hot plate went into the machine (which I felt had gone into my lungs). They refused to replace it and so did my insurance company. So now I was diagnosed with lung cancer. Has anybody else had harmful effects from their water tank drying out overnight?

RE: Lung Cancer and my ResMed AirCurve 10
So sorry to hear about your diagnosis and hope you have a successful outcome and long life to look forward to. A dry reservoir can have calcium or other deposits from your water evaporating, but they are not metal filings unless that is in your water source. It's really unlikely this is the cause of your current diagnosis. For perspective, I used to enter very hazardous environments as an EPA inspector, including coke oven byproduct distillation towers, asbestos removal operations, benzene storage tanks, hazardous materials storage and burn sites, and more. There are countless risk factors we all knowingly and unknowingly encounter, including diesel fumes, asbestos in our schools, smoking and passive smoke exposure, genetics, and I wouldn't put using a CPAP with a dry reservoir in the top 1000. How can we help?
