Mask leak
Good afternoon!
I recently upped my lower pressure to 8. While my AHI numbers have gone down, I'm getting significantly more mask leakage. Is it possible that my mask is too tight? (I have marks on my face for about 3 hours in the morning)
Thank you in advance!
Paul
RE: Mask leak
Yes, Try loosening the straps to be very loose. Lay down and turn on the machine. Start tightening the lower straps (slowly) until the leakage stops. At this point tighten the top straps just to maintain mask placement.
I hope this proves useful.
RE: Mask leak
When you adjust the straps use the mask fit feature on the machine or use the CPAP mode with no ramp and no EPR. Set the pressure in CPAP mode to 4 cm higher than your normal 95% pressure.
If you adjust the straps in Auto mode by just turning the machine on and adjusting the straps you will adjust them correctly for your lowest pressure. Then when the machine increases the pressure to block OAs, the mask will most likely leak.

RE: Mask leak
OP used S9 AutoSet
Earlier models (like mine)
The mask-fit feature delivers 10 cm H2O or set CPAP pressure (whichever is greater) for a three-minute period, prior to starting treatment.
During this time, the mask can be adjusted to minimize leaks.
Later models
In the S9 AutoSet, the mask-fit pressure is based on the 95th percentile of the previous session or 10 cm H2O whichever is greater.
In the S9 Elite, the mask-fit feature delivers 10 cm H2O or set CPAP pressure (whichever is greater) for a three-minute period, prior to starting treatment.
