Due to be attending my 3rd sleep study...

Due to be attending my 3rd sleep study...
So as well as my Sleep apnea and REM sleep behaviour disorder I still have issues going on with my sleep. I’ve had two studies previously, one at home and one in hospital. My home study I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and have been on CPAP since which has my apnea well under control. My last hospital sleep study diagnosed me with REM sleep behaviours disorder and was medicated with Clonazepam at a high dose of 2mg a night.

So due to still continued jerkiness and restlessness I’m to go in for another sleep study overnight in hospital but this time have blood tests and an MRI scan of my spine/lower back.

Sleep study I understand and blood tests are to check iron levels etc but the mri scan is a strange one on me I’m not sure how this would effect my sleep

Ask questions! I know your medical system is a little different than outs in the USA, but I would think you should be able to talk to your doctor.

Is Narcolepsy on the radar? It involves REM issues.

Generally speaking, the MRI is used to rule out other physiological conditions such as airway problems. stroke, MS, hepatic encephalopathy, etc. that can manifest as sleep disorders. However, don't concentrate on the scary stuff because they are relatively rare and worrying about something beyond your knowledge or control is counterproductive. The MRI is simply part of a comprehensive work-up. Ask your physician about the type of MRI study you are scheduled to undergo.

Best of luck.

I'd say adding an MRI is different. The doc is probably looking for physical obstructions or other characteristics that are preventing you from sound sleep.
