The squeaking sound is about to make me give up. (Video)

I've been a Resmed Airsense 10 user for about 5-6 years now. I use it the entire time I sleep every night, and generally don't have any problems following my treatment plan. However, a few months ago, this squeaking sound started. I've taken two videos that I hope give you a good example of what I'm talking about. It's most noticeable at the end of my exhale and before I start to inhale. I've noticed that it seems to be coming from the intake side. I've tried changing the filters thinking that might be it, but it's not. It happens whether the filter door is open or closed. I'm honestly at a loss. It's so distracting that I have serious trouble falling asleep, and needless to say, my wife isn't a big fan either. 

I'm attaching two videos. The first one is what happens when I have the mask on and am breathing. The second is what it sounds like when the machine is just running the cool cycle after a session. Sorry for the links. Tried to embed the videos but I kept getting a playback error.

Is this something that can be fixed or do I just need to get a new machine? I'd really hate to take on that expense if I don't need to, but at this point it's either quit using it or figure out how to make it stop.

Noise from the pneumatic block (blower) has been a problem with some devices, and if it is a relatively high volume, or moaning, the devices have been repaired or replaced under warranty. My opinion in looking at these videos is that the noise from the motor is not unusual, especially considering your recording device is right next to the intake, and Video 2 was nearly silent. Typically noise is louder on inhale. If you're very sensitive to the sound of the device, you might want to enclose it in a bedside drawer. If you think you may have a claim for a bad motor, then work through your supplier to get a warranty adjustment. Personally, I have found a recording on my phone makes the device louder. I have 3 Aircurve 10 Vautos and if I recorded their noise profile like this, they would all fail, so I think your device is probably normal. I do use the drawer in my bedside stand with a 2-inch hole in the back to route power and the tube, and I honestly don't hear a thing.

That's a really good idea, and I'm pretty sure it would be pretty easy for me to do.

I'm very confident that the noise isn't normal, as it only began a few months ago after 5-6 years of use without it. I will admit the videos do not do a great job of picking the sound up, as it is a higher frequency than can be heard well from a compressed YT video. Unfortunately, I'm definitely out of warranty so there is no chance for a claim. 

Moving it to a drawer should help, but I'd still love to see if it's an easy fix I can do. I should note, it's not necessarily the sound of air "whooshing' that is the problem. That air moving in and out of the machine is normal, and I actually like it. But it's almost like the motor is sucking air in when it's not pumping air out through a straw with a tiny hole in it that makes this high pitched whine.

I hear it -- it is not the whoosh -- that punctuation of a squeek! between breaths, right?


Just a guess here but...
Do you run exhalation pressure relief? Maybe that is the motor stepping up or down in speed between each breath giving out that squeek. Turn that feature off and see if it still happens? If so then maybe it is indeed the motor bearings making that when the speed is adjusted between breaths. Which means you might need a new motor to get rid of that.

The Resmed Airsense 10 fan motor can be replaced fairly easily. The motors are available everywhere from Amazon to AliExpress to EBAY. Instruction are on YouTube and there are several threads on the forum where members have changed out the motor. It is a certain fix that costs about $100 to complete. As far as drawer enclosure, I just used a 2-inch hole saw to create a hole behind the drawer, and routed the tube and power through that. It's a nice, easy modification that keeps the CPAP out of sight, prevents any possibility of drops and falls, and quiets the room.

Had a similar noise. Replaced the motor on my unit and it went away. That being said, I did get a new unit back when they were selling them online for $399. So the unit with the new motor is in my closet for backup duty.
