Need some help and guidance

RE: Need some help and guidance
Thanks, it is a lot to process. I wish the Sleep Center here, where I live actually told me about what my machine could do. It is nice to know that there are some people that are willing to help. I will work on the adjustments this weekend. I also have a few questions and want to make sure I understood everything in the thread, so I will reread them tonight. I'll work on those questions tonight. Much thanks! Thanks

(01-25-2020, 07:30 PM)andycc Wrote: I was wondering if anyone who has been on cpap therapy sleeps worse than when they were not. I have severe sleep apnea, and have been using the mask every night.  I have used it now for a good year. I suffered a form of optic nephropathy , docs think is connected to sleep apnea and going into hypoxmia. SO , I am afraid not to wear it. I wear it.

I am waking up what seems to be 15 times a night. Not the full wake ups, just the ones where you know you are awake and roll over and try to find a more comfortable position. I am toggling the mask all the time and cant just sleep for a few hours. I know stress can play a part in all this, but its getting to the point where I am  getting really upset in the evenings and before I go to sleep. I can  fall asleep fine, just wake up a ton.

I am seeing a sleep psychologist next week, in search for some help. I have between 2-5 events per Oscar and the resmed app. I  hope I can get that lower, after talking with my sleep doc in the coming weeks.

Any advice on this would help.

thanks

I used a red med airsense 10
pressure 14
dream wear nasal mask,

Also use an oxygen concentrator to help protect from hypoxia

Have you been tested for narcolepsy? I have both apnea and narcolepsy and you describe my normal sleep with cpap. I have to break my night up into two 3.5 hour sessions, I get okay sleep for 3.5 hours (fully awake no more than 4-5Xs in 3.5) then get up and watch tv for an hour and back for another 3.5 hours. A nap during the day helps.

No I have not. I don’t sleep for anywhere near 3.5 hours its more constant trying to find the right position and mini wakes up 10-15 times a night. Some nights are better than others, though.

I think you should consider looking into narcolepsy one of the main characteristics is fractured sleep all night long. when I talked about sleeping for 3 and 1/2 hours that means on my best night I can sleep for 3 and 1/2 hours with 5 or 6 wake-ups. That sounds an awful lot like your 15 times a night.

There is a drug approved for narcoleptics to help them sleep, I just feel it wouldn't work for me since I have to care for my wife and I might not be able to wake up.

Just an off the wall guess here, but would you mind posting a zoomed in screenshot of some of your obstructive and CA events? With a little bit of time before and a little bit of time after in the flow rate view.

SO i started using the  the auto set feature. I am going slow and this was my first night. I am a little concerned that it went to 15  a few times. I was hoping it would be more stable though the night. I attached my screen shot of OSCAR.

Geaux, most of the CA are in the morning. I toss and turn a lot in the night but i posted a zoomed one as well.

Bingo - see that spike in inhale before your first CA event at 6:45?  I would bet that this, and the string of events immediately afterward, happened while you were awake, and are just breath holding while you toss and turn.  If you were awake, you can safely ignore them.  Something to think about.

The same thing happens to me, but I only became aware of it after setting up a video camera to record myself sleeping.

Yeah, there is a really good vid on you tube about how to read OSCAR and what may be false positives. I notice on many of my CAs i have a breath before and most are in the morning when I am in between sleep and just kinda half asleep.

I get a little concerned that I do see some CAs in middle of the night, but due to the fact that I am waking up a lot and tossing and turning. I would like to understand those better. But it could be just the machine.

I will that up with my doc next time I see her.
