I haven't been on this board for awhile. New (good news) is sleep doctor took me off the ASV ( previously was using a BIPAP ) , and I took a sabbatical on machines for awhile, but have been using a Checkmate O2 Max. Lots of saturations through out the night, but not enough to put my average below 92%. It's 95 to 96% with breathing support. Started using a PR Dreamstation auto CPAP with good results ( I still have it ) but switched to a Res Med Air Sense 10 auto CPAP. It's set @ 13.4 to 15 EPR 3. I like the interface better also. The clear airway reading has me wondering if I picked the correct machine, or if I need one at all. Your thoughts?
Your CA are not a problem. All of us have a few central apneas each night when we roll over in bed we hold our breath, pull up a blanket we hold our breath and if the length of time is 10 seconds it is recorded as a central. You had just a few and is not a problem at all. Of course if you started having a lot then you need to look at it.
As far as if you need cpap at all - NO way to know, you were using the cpap when you recorded that night and the only way you could tell if you don't need the machine is a sleep lab where they hook you up and record without the machine and then with the machine and seeing the difference.

I hope Sleeprider will make some comments on this. My new sleep doctor took me off the ASV to let my system stabilize and take a new sleep study. He said I have a case of mild sleep apnea, and hardly any trace of central sleep apnea. Previous doctors said I had complex sleep apnea, and that’s why the ASV machine. I told him I had an auto CPAP machine at home that I can use, but then I would rather not. I don’t like being hooked up to the machine because of the pressures (14-15), uncomfortable face masks and leaks.
So he gave me the option of using it or not. I’ve done both and learned a lot, especially with the oximeter. I have between 1 and 4% periodic breathing throughout most nights, between 3 & 4 episodes of desaturations down into the mid 80s and then back up again. One time it dropped to 70. It’s quite a zigzaging line that goes up and down a lot.The charts don’t look that good with all the orange.
The AVERAGE score for the night is never lower than 92%, Which seems OK with everything that I’ve read. Am I missing something?? The charts always look much better when I’m using an auto CPAP machine, but I think I should be using the Vauto… I really liked the breath by breath comfort of the ASV. The original BiPAP machine I used worked very well, and I really enjoyed all the features, but it was too much pressure all the time. Even the auto CPAP machines are too much pressure. I will use a machine if I have to, but I would rather not at this late age of 70 in life.
The ASV and VAuto will feel different, at least they were to me. They are for different therapies also, so that might make sense.

On your present machine, it looks like you are using ramp at a pretty high pressure. I suggest you turn ramp off. You don't need it.
Try lowering your low pressure setting to 10. If it does go up to 13.4 that will show that you probably do need a pap machine. If it stays at 10, drop it to 5 next and see what happens. I think by experimenting this way you can determine if you need pap therapy.
If you do need pap therapy the Vauto is a great machine. With it, you have a lot more pressure support choices and you can use high or extra high trigger to help with the CAs.

I know I need a machine, that’s why I started back up again. My current machine has the ramp starting at 8 for 5 min. going up to the low limit of 13.4 and the high limit of 15.4. My last nights AHI was 0.2. I’ve tried lower starting points but always end up going back to 13 to 13.5, because it works for me. I just ordered a Vauto yesterday but need to get a RX from my sleep doctor for it. Thanks for your help.
