New to all. Have lots of ??
Thanks for this forum. Was directed to it from a Reddit group.  Wow lots of great info that Im just starting to look into. Using the search the search etc.  So new I dont even know what questions I should be asking.

I'm 57 Wife has been telling to breath in the middle of the night for like 20 years. Did a at home study last week ( thought... they wont find anything I had a great nights sleep! lol) The result was AHI-61 , ODI-53 with 64 incidents per hr. Based on the result I'm listed as severe, now I'm a lot more worried than I ever was pre-diagnosis. Was prescribed an Auto Bipap machine.
Now my questions:
Is this considered severe or abnormal based on folks here?

I have a huge insurance deductible so It wont cover the machine. Was looking at a used
Dreamstation 1 (Checked its been replaced from recall, has zero hours) Price is more than fair. Any suggestions on the Dreamstation 1?

I sleep like a fish toss and turn sides and back was suggested to get Dream Ware (headgear?) with nose and mouth coverage mask? Is that a good fit for me would you have other suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any answers, Its gonna be a new journey

Welcome to to the forum Zack, that is on the middle/high end of severe SA.  I was diagnosed with an AHI of 31 with O2 desaturation down into the high 70s-it caused multiple health issues as I went untreated for nearly 30 years..

The DS1 is a good machine and can get you down into the <5ahi realm when dialed in for your needs. so with low hours (and it being remediated) I'd go for it.

Regarding mask types it'll be a trial for you to find what works best for your needs. Personally I tried nasal pillows, hybrids, and full face (from resmed and F&P) and landed on the Resmed Airfit F20 system. Make sure to try different cushion sizes too-I was measured for a medium cushion but really needed a large.

Also please install an SD card in the machine (it may come with one) so we can see your Oscar data. Smile

Oh, and a hose hanger is something I wish I had from the beginning, it makes it much more comfortable. (search online for 'cpap hose hanger')

Personally, I prefer ResMed's AirSense Autoset 10 over any Phillips products because of its response algorithm. Since the introduction of the AirSense Autoset 11, prices appear to have dropped and are quite affordable for used machines. Even the Card-to-Cloud version is much cheaper than its predecessor.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the response.

It looks like I can get either the Dreamstation1 or the Aircurve 10 Vautoset. The Dreamstation was replaced with a re manufactured unit and not used. Resmed unit is brand new was demoed and the patient past away the next day. Both are close to same price under 400.00. Im thinking the Resmed being brand new and never used might be the better value. Just dont know much about the machines to know which is the better machine.

All things being equal, my choice would be the Aircurve 10 Vautoset. You may want to watch... Philips Respironics DreamStation & ResMed AirCurve 10 BiPAP Machines (youtube.com) or ResMed AirSense 10 Auto Vs. Philips Respironics DreamStation Auto CPAP Machine (youtube.com) -- or any of the comparison videos.
