Has anyone ever used an ohm meter to check continuity? Assuming that I would need a high impedance meter so as to not make a fuse out of the element. Anyone ever do this and know what the resistance reading should be?

Resistance checking heated air hose?
I am not sure if my heated air hose is working properly.

RE: Resistance checking heated air hose...?
Always wondered about that... OK, with the contacts up and the hose going away from you, there is 10 ohms between the centre and the right side, measured on my 200 ohm scale. Using the continuity/diode setting, I measured 1744 ohms between the left contact and either of the others. The polarity of the probes didn't make any difference, and when I used the 2K scale, it showed open circuit, again regardless of the probe polarity. (No explanation to be offered by me)
It helps if you have three hands, but I held the hose between two fingers with the end in my palm, and one probe with my finger and thumb...and the other probe in my other hand.

RE: Resistance checking heated air hose...?
Thank for the info. Are you using a high impedance digital multi meter? I will keep this thread bookmarked if I need it further ...but my suspicions of a faulty element in the heated hose were ungrounded (no pun.)
I like to solve problems, but I erred in a proper diagnosis- I was feeling the hose just outboard of the CPAP machine which did not feel warm, but the portion of the hose that is partially under my pillow WAS warm. Also- I initially checked hose temp upon startup which did not feel warm whereas checking it in the morning after a night's use indicated differently. I think my problem will be solved with a hose cover. thanks.

RE: Resistance checking heated air hose...?
It was a digital multimeter, but I've had it so long the spec sheet is long gone, so I don't know voltage across the probes when measuring resistance. Sorry. It must have been different for the continuity/diode check, because I did get different readings.
