One more change that I did was to get better lip seal. It stayed on the entire night and did not leak any air from my mouth due to air pressure.
What else could I be doing now to converge to settings that work for me?

I tried the suggestions from yesterday. I was on CPAP. for 3.5 hours last night. Attaching the data. AHI = 7.13

RE: Review my OSCAR data please
Well, the CAs did reduce. What medications are you on? Also, are you self-funding your CPAP or is it insurance covered?

RE: Review my OSCAR data please
Yes true that they reduced. Although there is a confounding variable of mouth sealant.
There are no specific medications that I am on. I detected that I probably have RLS / PLMD. I recently noticed that while reading about apnea and noticed that I have it too (curse of being left-handed ). I have to yet discuss it with my sleep doctor. I am taking iron supplement to manage that for now according to forum posts. In addition to that, I take magnesium + vitamin D + creatnine supplement every day. The night before my sleep quality was absolute sh*t and basically my entire day yesterday was zombified. I thought that it could be because I removed the mask in the middle of night. To get used to it, I took some marijuana last night. However, in the past, from my experience, MJ did not bring down number of events. Of course my data is not sufficient yet because I only recently got CPAP and I am not exactly taking same consistent dose of edibles. My CPAP is insurance covered.

RE: Review my OSCAR data please
I have sleep doctor appointment coming up soon. However, from my experience, working with them is extremely slow and the appointments are spaced at 3-4 weeks intervals at best. Besides they take one look at the numbers and suggest some changes. That expands the convergence times. Already I have gone through 6-8 iterations of changing various parameters. If I had depended on technician or doctor, it would have taken me 3-4 months to finish these iterations.
So a BIG THANK YOU to all of you and this community. Hopefully one day I will become one who will help out other sufferers like me.

RE: Review my OSCAR data please
One question I have is about the detection of CA events. How reliable is the algorithm to detect the CA events by various CPAP machines?
From my understanding, they detect the CA events by sensing that you are not breathing as you were supposed to. I believe some companies specifically renamed them to clear airway from central apnea for that reason (because AFAIU reliable way to detect it is using brain EEG probe or something?). Could it ever happen that your body, due to CPAP, does not need as much oxygen and hence the detected event is a false positive? Would it make sense to purchase an SPO2 monitoring device to annotate the data to eliminate false positives if there any?

Well, if you are taking marijuana (a medication and depressant), then your problem is outside my purview. I will be amazed if anyone here can help you.

RE: Review my OSCAR data please
I will stop taking it. It was to get used to the feeling of the mask. It is not easy on the nose, face etc.
I will report whether my reports are with it or without it.

Precisely why I took it. Without it and without restful night sleep for years, my body feels extremely stiff and nerves feel like on the fire. It helps with that. But I understand that to isolate the parameters it is best desired not to take it and I will do that in future.

RE: Review my OSCAR data please
It takes some time to get use to a mask. You may need to try different ones to see what works best for you. I ended up using a nasal cap. I too have an issue with air just blowing out of my mouth. I just use 2 inch blue painters tape. I also cover it with a strip of 2 inch elastic wrap tape from the drug store. Works great for me. And; I have a full beard.

RE: Review my OSCAR data please
Ohh thank you so much for the pictures of the tapes.
I have tried pretty much all of the mouth sealing tapes from Amazon and none of them are working. I mean they work for a couple of hours and then the adhesive becomes loose due to the drool and then I start to leak from my mouth. It inevitably wakes me up and makes falling asleep difficult. Thank you for the pointers and I will try the same. |
