Signs of Better Sleep
I joined this forum a few months ago and appreciate all the insight I gained to help me eventually choose a CPAP machine. My initial sleep study showed 16.9 AHI and the titration suggested a pressure of 11. I have been using the device pretty religiously for almost 3 months now. It typically records an AHI of well less than 1.
I know I am sleeping better. In the past I would toss and turn so much that the sheets would be twisted and untucked and pillows might be on the floor. Since using CPAP, my sheets have NEVER been untucked and I often wake up and realize I did not change position all night. I didn't even know that was possible!
The other thing I have noticed is that I am either dreaming more, or remembering them more. I suspect this is due to deeper sleep. I did some searches and don't see others talking about that. For me it has been very noticeable, the dreams "seem" long and can be very intricate. Curious if others have seen the same.
I've adapted to the therapy pretty well. Often don't even realize I have the mask on. One other thing I will throw out there - I have started to feel the pressure is too high and I am finding it a bit annoying. I have also been pretty "gassy" since using the CPAP, so I think it may be pumping air into my stomach. On top of that, though clearly sleeping much better can't say that I am feeling THAT much more rested. I realize it takes awhile for a sleep-deprived body to recover, but curious what the effect of too much pressure is on the way one feels over time?
Some might say that I should consult with my doctor or sleep center before adjusting the pressure, but to be honest I don't think my internist really has much knowledge in this area, and the sleep center he sent me to I had problems with and not much respect for. So, had rather tweak a bit on my own and monitor results.
