Sleepyhead Software
Happy Friday,
Can some one tell me why I should download and use Sleepyhead or Dream Mapper on my new Dreamstation BiPAP? Been on BiPAP for 19 years and never had to worry about all the stats etc that are produced.
I guess what I am asking is it helpful to my Dr to have this stuff every so often or is it just so I can see info that I don't understand. In browsing this Forum I have noticed several topic where folks have shared graphs from Sleepyhead to explain problems they are encountering. Since I have never heard of or used anything like Sleepyhead in the past I am skeptical about using it. Not that it is a bad bit of software. Just not useful to me.

The Detail Data you get allows you to track several things besides AHI. For example you can see your breathing flow rate and leak rates
and how they react to different pressures and events.
I think once you use it you'll really like it.
As far as understanding it here's a link to beginner's guide to sleepyhead. http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php...SleepyHead
Also the link to download sleepyhead is just below if you'd like to try it.
It won't hurt to try it and if you don't like it don't use it. It's free so nothing to lose.
Thanks Walla Walla for the quick reply. I am aware that SH is installed on my computer and uses an SD card installed in the Dreamstation to store the data which is then transferred to my computer using that SD card.
But your brief explanation of SH and the links to the beginner's guide will be exceedingly helpful as I contemplate using SH. Again, thanks for the info and the links. Will try to remember to keep how I progress with SH.

RE: Sleepyhead Software
SleepyHead provides information that can be useful in optimizing your treatment. Not everyone is interested in their own self-care, but participation here suggests that you are not in that category.
If you ask for help here, SleepyHead data enables the folks that are knowledgeable to offer their help.
Whether your doctor would find the data useful or not depends on the doctor. Some love it; some will read you the riot act for daring to look at your own data.
RE: Sleepyhead Software
I've gotten great value out of sharing with the subject matter experts here. My doc (actually the sleep specialists @ Kaiser) have access to all my data via cellular-based upload from my machine, but they have so many patients there's simply no way I could expect any proactive analysis.
If you're sleeping well and your relationship with your doctor points toward confidence and good health, there's probably no need. If you're curious, however, it might be fun to take a peek at the data.

I have a new Dr but I do trust him a lot. Will give SH a try and then when I next see him in 3 months I will take some data and see what he thinks. Like I've been told elsewhere in the thread SH is free and if I like it use it otherwise don't.

RE: Sleepyhead Software
The software is mostly for you. You can use it to look at what is going on with your therapy and optimize it, but your doctor really only cares whether you feel good with the therapy. Most doctors do not want to see data. They are there to care for you and your well-being. Many will simply refuse to look at data, and it's not because they don't believe in it or don't understand it, it's just not their end-point of success.

RE: Sleepyhead Software
Should we assume that there will be no future developments with this software and individuals who have new models will not be able to utilize the software?
RE: Sleepyhead Software
Most Doctors look at compliance/usage data because they have to certify that you are using your machine for a specified number of hours per day and days per month.
Many Doctors look at summary data to see that you are "treated", AHI of less than 5.0
Fewer Doctors look at the detailed nightly data that indicates how you are doing through the night.
Sleepyhead lets us/you see the detail of how you are doing. Should you post these charts we would tell you what we see. If we suggest changes then it is your choice whether you wish to modify your settings or using the suggestions, along with the detailed data, as talking points to discuss with your doctor.
In the end it always is your treatment and therefore your choice.
better choices are always made with data than without it.
