Smart Card & Software for the old Respironics Remstar Auto M-Series ??

Smart Card & Software for the old Respironics Remstar Auto M-Series ??
.I'm giving my Respironics Remstar Auto M-series to my son as a backup. (I now have two Airsense 10 machines for my own APAP & backup).

Right now he has the cheapest "bare bones" ResMed constant-pressure CPAP that the DME pawned off on him. But, fortunately he does well on it. But he said he wanted a backup.

I understand that my old M-Series came out in 2008-2009 before Phillips joined Respironics . . . and the machine is NOT one of the recalled machines.

My questions: This old Remstar M-Series uses a large (c. 2" x 3.25") Encorepro smart card which I believe has been discontinued.
1) I forget what was it actually used for? Input to the provider only??
2) Will the machine run WITHOUT the card, and still show the AHI, etc on the display?
3) Will ANY software work with the machine now . . . and are needed (?) replacement smart cards still sold, and the larger card readers?

Thanks in advance for any input.

JoyD.

The Philips Respironics Encore Pro smartcard is discontinued, but can be found on Ebay and other places by searching. It requires a smartcard reader to read and import the data to a computer using EncorePro software, which is available on the forum for free. It's very old technology and not very user-friendly. The machine will run just fine without it and can display simple therapy information on the small LCD display.

You can request a Clinician Setup Manual for the Respironics M-Series CPAP at the Setup Manuals link at the top of this page. That gives instructions on changing settings and accessing therapy data. I personally would not put much effort into getting a Smartcard or Reader for this very old machine. You can often find good deals on lightly used machines on the Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and other person to person sales platforms. I assume he has no insurance?

Thanks for your input, SleepRider. I've already accessed both the USER MANUAL & the CLINICIAN's SET UP MANUAL for him to use it as a BACKUP . . . and changed the pressure/ramp settings in line with his current ResMed machine (while he was watching).

Of course you're right about forgetting about a smartcard & reader, and merely using the display which shows the 7-day AHI average. That's more than he has now with the ResMed "brick" constant pressure CPAP that the DME pushed on him when he didn't know any better. Fortunately, he has done very well with it: no problems adjusting and always feels great when he wakes up.

Next time he buys a machine . . . he knows to have the MD specify a top-of-the-line ResMed (yes, he has insurance).

Thanks again,
Joy

You are correct the the display can only be changed to show a 7 Day or 30-day average.
He must surely be due to have a new machine. The M-series is simply ancient.

If you want to chase down the Mako Infineer DT-3500 Smartcard Reader, USB Driver and a Smartcard, let me know. I have not dealt with this subject in 6 years, and this is the post I made at that time:

If you can read the Smartcard, it will import to EncorePro2 which itself is a PITA. May I suggest a new machine?  Sellers on Amazon have been listing the Dreamstation DSX700T11 at very good prices.

As I read the posts, the M-series is being used as a backup.

He has a current ResMed machine, that was just acquired. So insurance won't buy another yet.
I'm guessing the Air Sense 10 or 11 CPAP that doesn't record detailed data (need the Elite or higher for that).

I forgot that a no-data CPAP even exists.

I think I have seen some detailed data from the AS11 CPAP model. I'd have to check later.

RE: Smart Card & Software for the old Respironics Remstar Auto M-Series ??
Actually my son has a 10 year old ResMed for his own machine. I gave him my old Respironics M-Series as a back-up which he uses when he stays overnight at his partner's home, and says it works just fine. -- I offered to buy him an AirSense 10 AutoSet which I could buy through friends for $499, but he turned it down. Says he's doing just fine, and doesn't need software which he wouldn't use anyway.. Well, that's his choice . . . I tried! :-)

Thanks for all attempts to help. He's on his own now!

RE: Smart Card & Software for the old Respironics Remstar Auto M-Series ??
Hi all !
Very much in line with this thread, I have a specific question.

I've got a Remstar 400 M machine. It is literally 20 years old. Nobody can read the smartcard. Last December I was in a store in the Midwest and the woman knew this machine.

She held down the buttons in a specific order- and found the menus that SHOW me my settings. I shot a photo, sadly, of the menu showing me What looks like this:

<-  CPAP Pressure ->

10.0 cmH20

I no longer use the reservoir and so I need the real pressure settings. Does anyone know what the combination of buttons to press are??

Many thanks,

Peter

Hi Visualist!  -  Welcome
There seems to be 3 different access procedures listed.  Go to Section 1 of the CPAP Setup Manuals link and see which listing best describes your CPAP.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p...tup-manual.

The CPAP Setup Manuals link is also located at the top of every page here, in the black ribbon.

Good luck!
