Stumbled into amazing fix for my high ahi
I am about 2 months in. Until last week I had lots of struggles with unreasonably high ahi scores. Was running average of 10 to 12 ahi each night, with random nights double that. Almost all CA.
What finally worked:
i have a nasal mask (resmed airfit n30). Head gear so much more comfortable than the one I started with, but tiny steam of air leaked out around nose when I moved or laid on side. Not enough to create major leak, but tickled and made it hard to go to sleep, or go back to sleep if I woke in the night.
I took a mouth tape patch (bought but decided not to use) and taped mask to my nose, being careful not to cover vents. And it worked!
Last 9 nights:
10.6. 6.8 12.1 8.9 0.9 1.1 0.9 1.2 0.9
Guess when I started using the tape?
(First I noticed big clusters of CAs at times I was awake. Read a diff post that said machine can misread awake breathing that is not regular. While cpap is new I think we do alot more sudden deep breaths or gasps as we struggle to adjust. Getting rid of the annoying air tickling my nose means I actually sleep more, so the machine is catching fake stuff less.)
Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks Lanners,
It's always good to hear what others try to achieve a better nights rest!
RE: Stumbled into amazing fix for my high ahi
Congrats on your success, Lanners! There’s so much trial and error involved with sleep apnea therapy and sometimes you hit the jackpot. I’m very interested in your comment about the machine misreading awake breathing as CA’s. I too have clusters of CA’s during times I know for sure I’m awake and focused on my breathing making sure it’s regular so the machine won’t flag CA’s - go figure. Could you point me to the thread discussing this or perhaps someone else could explain this?
Best wishes for continued success! I’ll soon be getting the N30 and will try your trick if I need it. Thanks!
