Odd Spikes in Flow Rates

Odd Spikes in Flow Rates
I have a friend who is curious as to what would cause an abnormal number of spikes in flow rate throughout the night.

There seems to be a normal breathing pattern and then an abnormal inhale/exhale in an unusual number of occurrences.
Is there any other explanation for this other than just taking a deep breath more frequently?

It would take a 3 minute view of the before and after that "event" to be specific, but arrousal is common.
