RE: Todays the big day
Questions:
1. There's no option to chance pressure. Sure doctor doesn't want me to. How would I do it if I want to.
2. BiPAP was extremely annoying during sleep study. But I feel like I may need it while sleeping.
Can BiPAP be set to activate only after a certain time? I don't want to sit awake with BiPAP.
3. How do you even turn it on with this machine?
4. It's stupid how I can't delay the ramp time without turning the machine off/on. I just want a button to bump the delay by an additional xx minutes. Hitting the button should erase all recently recorded data (except time used for compliance) and start over.
5. I hope these fragmented awake usage sessions count towards compliance. Just incase I can't sleep with it right away until I get used to it.
RE: Todays the big day
I'm a mouth breather and have been for as long as I can recall. If I try to breathe thru my nose, it feels as if I can't get enough air.
When I have my mask on, I can feel and hear my breathing. In some odd way, that seems to relax me some. Not sure why, but it does.
My machine has a small green light on the on/off switch. It's on all the time. I don't think that I can turn my machine off completely. I think it's always on as long as it's plugged into the wall socket.
I still don't know the difference between CPAP and BPAP? I have OSA. I'm assuming that's why I have a CPAP machine.

1. if you have the manual, it will explain how to enter the device's menu, find what you're looking to manipulate/modify, and then how to change settings; It's under Options. Some of the senior staff and members here have notes under their signatures in posts showing where/how to download the full manual.
2. What about the BiPAP was it that set you off or that you found objectionable/annoying?
3. Not sure, since I have no experience with BiPAP, but most machines allow the user to set 'ramp' time, also under options. The machine starts low 'n slow, and then ramps up to the preset parameters for pressure;
4. Explained above...under Options, scroll down using the outer ring until you find ramp, press the central button, and go from there. Press 'home' when you're through; and
5. All hours of use count and will be added. Even those spent watching TV if ya hafta cheat some. Fragmented sleep is common, gets better, has a bad spell, a worse spell, and then gets better again. Practice good sleep hygiene and you should minimize the nastier bits. Daily exercise, even a brisk 20 minute walk, can make all the difference in the world all by itself.
RE: Todays the big day
lol. I figured out how to access the advanced settings on my own. You hold home and the knob button for together for about 3 seconds. I feel like a kid finding the keys to the liquor cabinet ?

Hated the BIPAP predicting when I was gonna inhale and the sudden pressure increase every few seconds. Very annoying.
Also, I don't always have a consistent breathing pattern. Especially when thinking about breathing. Many times I wanted to breath out, take a small sip of air, then breathe out some more. The constant pressure switching was extremely annoying.
I will probably want that while sleeping, but not before.

1. Here is a tutoriql on getting into the pressure settings https://www.apneaboard.com/resmed-airsen...setup-info
2. You were not tested for bilevel. You do have EPR on the Autoset that provides up to 3 cm difference between the CPAP pressure and exhale pressure. It works like bilevel. Without knowing your settings it's impossible to advise you.
3. Turn on EPR in settings, and select full time and the setting from `1 to 3.
4. Each time the machine restarts, ramp begins. The best solution is to turn ramp off.
5. Yes, but try to stick with it. explain why you feel a need to turn off the machine, and maybe we can help.

From what you have posted it appears you have a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset. Is that correct? The pressure settings can be changed. You need to go into the clinical settings which is accessed by pressing the round button and he home button simultaneously. I don't recommend you change pressures however until you get more guidance. I strongly suggest you download free Sleepyhead software and post some data from some nights of use. (See the links at the bottom of this post for instructions.) That will allow forum members to see how you are responding to the present settings. Please fill out your profile with machine description, pressure settings, etc. so we will know what you have.
The airsense 10 autoset does not have a BIPAP function.
All usage counts toward compliance but you need a minimum of 4 hours in each 24 hour period for at least 22 days each month for the first 90 days to meet compliance requirement. Any day your total usage is less than 4 hours does not count.

Be patient. Try everything. Don’t expect instant success. And don’t be bashful and ask questions. After 2 1/2 years, I am still trying new things. Some work better and some not so good.
CPAP is a journey like “The Wizard of Oz”. It’s a long slow journey. You will face many problems and pick up many friends along the way. Just because you reach the poppies, it doesn’t mean you are in Kansas.

1st night with cpap
Well I didn't sleep at all with it. And I woke up suffocating. But the results so far are encouraging.
My brain is a bit too scared to sleep with this thing. Feel like I am going to suffocate when the exact opposite is the case.
I was uncomfortable with the lowest setting yesterday (4cm) yet this morning I started playing with it (awake) and it was ramping me up to 7, 10, almost 14cm.
Now I'm sitting with it at a constant 15cm and am doing fine. I feel like if I can handle THIS I can handle anything. 5-15 is my prescribed pressure. Although I did NOT have a proper titration so that was just a number the doctor pulled out of his ass IMO.
I feel like if I can handle 15cm while awake (thing only goes to 20), I sleeping with it should be no problem. How could it possibly wake me up?
My only question is, is it OK that I'm sitting here with a constant 15cm? Or am I destroying myself somehow?
Edit: Machine is the ResMed AirSense10 Autoset.
I'll update the thing on the side when I'm at the computer. I'm having trouble finding the option using this fone.

RE: 1st night with cpap
It will be better if you keep your therapy questions in one thread. This allows your history to stay together.
Your machine should be set to Autoset mode with minimum pressure of 5.0 and maximum of 15.0. We don't know if you are using EPR.
You clearly suffer from anxiety, and that is your first and most important problem to overcome. Your CPAP cannot hurt you in this pressure range, and we can't suggest any changes until you settle your mind and use the machine, the post the data. We are pretty good here, but not clairvoyant. The machine pressure will often rise when used while awake, due to erratic breathing. In your case it might be good to turn on ramp at a minimum pressure of 5.0, and set it to auto, so it automatically detects sleep and increases pressure automatically. I'm sure this is not your first experience with anxiety, so whatever you have done in the past to calm down and sleep, is what you need to do now with cpap.
