RE: periodic breathing
If your periodic breathing indication is a computer issue, no worries.
But if the periodic breathing indication persists and you have central apneas, you may wish to discuss this matter with your physician, preferably a cardiologist, as periodic breathing may be symptomatic of an underlying issue like excess fluid found in congestive heart failure patients. Sorry to be negative; it is better to be safe than sorry. BTW, Congestive heart failure does not equal sudden death, just a build-up of fluids in the system. RE: periodic breathing
Philips has periodic breathing and variable breathing detection, and they are different. Why downgrade to Philips?

Philips vs Resmed
reactive / preventive Fles / true bilevel more events / less events CPAP / more comfort Data rate 5 Hz / Data rate 25 Hz There is a lot going on that is different between these two machines, and the more you learn the less you like Philips. At least that is my experience. I started on a Philips Series M Auto, and moved to PR System 1 auto and Auto BiPAP. Once I moved to Resmed, I learned stuff, only the designers and engineers should know. It all points to a very superior design and programming.
