Update to machine data problem
Respironics says my ASV can't do what it is doing. My DME rep called them after I showed her the machine today.
There are many mornings when the info screen reports 0 hours and 0 for AHI, min Epap, pressure support etc. It then factors those zeros into the 7 and 30 day averages.
I checked with the DME since it is rent to own with the insurance company and I can't have it report noncompliance. It's not! It is uploading correct therapy hours and data via modem, which has a whole different set of averages! Like an embezzling bookkeeper it has two sets of records. Can't be done says the Respironics techs.
I'm now arguing for a replacement. The company says it's not a problem since the DME gets data. I told them that for several thousand dollars the machine should do why it's supposed to do. Who knows what else will screw up? I should probably have demanded she check the pressure at the DME.
At least the DME person acknowledges the discrepancy. Refused to swap the machine without Respironics agreeing to accept it back though. I may see if the insurance company can force an exchange.
RE: Update to machine data problem
I'll add that to the long list of reasons why I don't prefer Respironics machines. Don't get me wrong, I've used them and have one as a back up, primarily because it runs native on 12 volts, but when I have my druthers I choose ResMed.

RE: Update to machine data problem
Respironics says it isn't a therapeutic issue so they won't take back the machine.
RE: Update to machine data problem
They should have a copy of their warranty on their web site or a printed one that came with the machine. If it's under warranty then this document should tell you exactly what is covered and they should stand by that.

It's a therapeutic issue for anyone monitoring their own therapy. Respironics, I place a curse on you!

RE: Update to machine data problem
If the machine is reporting two different sets of data how can Respironics be sure the data reported to the DME is correct? The machine is obviously not of merchantable quality and should be replaced. Does your locality have a consumer protection department? I would get this issue escalated quick smart.
RE: Update to machine data problem
I would get your insurance company involved. They paid a lot of money to your DME for that machine, and they should know just what they got for their money, and what the DME delivered for the money they got. The DME should replace the unit, and your insurance company can put pressure on them to do so. The DME is under contract with your insurance company to provide a certain quality of equipment and level of service.

RE: Update to machine data problem
I am getting a replacement!!!!!
I called Respironics myself and filed a complaint. They contacted the DME and told them they were sending in a replacement.
Meanwhile I had my followup visit with the sleep doc who chastised me for coming in before I'd been using the new ASV for at least 30 days, as instructed. I showed her my bill of sale which I conveniently brought along to point out that I'd been using it for 36 days. The uploaded data showed 22 days of use, not 36.....
Then again, when they tried to upload my data via modem the tech couldn't find it. Turns out she was looking at the ResMed updating link "and that's right, ResMed doesn't manufacture an ASV". So I think I'll be looking for a new sleep "specialist" if I need more help!
RE: Update to machine data problem
Yep and they actually get paid for this "support"- find a new one, she is a "here take this and don't bother me" type of Doctor. There are better ones out there.
Good news on both the replacement unit and taking control of your therapy!
