RE: Difference between Vauto and S modes
- EPAP (Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure): This is the pressure provided by the ventilator during exhalation. It helps to maintain an open airway, preventing it from collapsing during exhalation.
- IPAP (Inspiratory Positive Airway Pressure): This is the pressure provided during inhalation. It's usually set higher than EPAP to assist the user in inhaling more easily.
- Vauto Mode: This is an automatically adjusting mode where the ventilator adjusts the EPAP and IPAP in response to the user’s breathing needs. If flow limitations or breathing events (like apneas or hypopneas) are detected, the ventilator will automatically increase IPAP to help the user overcome the limitation and improve breathing. At the same time, it can adjust the EPAP as needed to keep the airway open.
- S Mode (Spontaneous Mode): This is a fixed pressure mode where the EPAP and IPAP are set to constant values and do not automatically adjust based on the user's breathing patterns. In S mode, the pressures for exhalation (EPAP) and inhalation (IPAP) are preset and do not change in response to the user’s breathing status.
In essence, Vauto mode provides the functionality of auto-adjusting pressures based on the user’s breathing pattern and needs, increasing or decreasing as necessary. S mode, on the other hand, offers fixed pressure settings that do not auto-adjust based on the user's breath. The main difference lies in the auto-adjusting capabilities of the pressures.
