Water in cpap tube wakes me up
I have a problem with my Dreamstation 2 cpap. I also had the same with Dreamstation 1.
In order to improve my AHI score I need to increase humidification to level 5. At this level water seems to get into the tubing and if I get out of bed at night, the water accumulates in the sub nasal catheter . When I put the mask back on I hear water bubling in the tube around my head and the bubbling wakes me. I have to get up and then drain the tube to go back to sleep.
The machine is kept on a bedside table about the height of my bed but the tube goes down before it comes back up to the mask.
Does the height of the machine make a difference.

Maybe, try to decrease humification level.
It will make less water steam in the air which go to your face. It just put more water in the air because pressure decrease the % of water.
It makes no difference on the pressure (the AHI score must not be different).

When I use stetting of 4, My AHi score is above 7. When I use 5 , it drops below 5.4.

If you can get a heated hose for your DS2 you can usually set the hose temperature to aoid the 'rainout'.
Another possibility is to get a hose cover so that the room air doesn't affect the air in the ose.
Also running the hose up and over the head board or hose hanger will let the water run back into the humidifier tank.
And you can combine all three...

Thank you.
I will look up those devices on line.
RE: Water in cpap tube wakes me up
I found a hose cover on amazon and the product had 4.5 stars 3900 reviews. The company posted two videos explaining its use and set up.
He said the cover will help reduces condensation, a heated tube may also help and finally he suggested that if these were not enough, I could lower the height of the cpap machine.
So I will start with the cover and go from there.
Thank you for your suggestions.

You can also increase the ambient temperature of you bedroom.
Rain out is when the moisture in the air condenses back into liquid. Picture the droplets on a pitch of ice water on a hot humid day.
One or more of the following:
- Reduce humidity setting - This reduces the moisture in the air
- Increase tube temperature - Either with a heated hose or a hose cozy. This warms the walls of the tube, now when the warmer moist air contacts it, it won't condense as much.
- Increase room ambient temperature - Same as increasing tub temperature
- Lower the machine - This one I have little confidence in. The thought is; water condenses and then runs back into the machine. Rarely does one's hose form a sharp enough incline back into the hose. And if the rainout forms past any hump, it's not running back.
- Ensure you're not overfilling

The cover will help if the problem is caused by your bedroom being kept cold. Otherwise, the heated tube is probably your best option.

The best way to avoid this problem is to have the tube rise from the CPAP machine so all water drains back. You do not want to create a water trap Like the one under your sink, if you let the tube descend then rise water will accumulate at the low point. Bring the tube up, and let it descend back to your sleeping position. Second, get a SnuggleHose fleece tube cover. This is long enough to accommodate the CPAP tube and any connecting tube, providing an insulating layer between the warm humidified air and the ambient air in your bedroom.

RE: Water in cpap tube wakes me up
Thanks for all of your responses. I received the cover two days ago and it appears to have resolved the issue. I had seen my Sleep Doctor on Monday and he agreed, he also prescribed for me a heated tube just in case the cover did not work.
My supplier usually contacts me quarterly about my upcoming order so I can always make sure I get the heated tube at that time.
As far as the abient room temp, sleep studies suggest that better sleep is achieved with room temps less than 70.
SO ... since I received the cover and increased the humidifier to 5, my AHI score has dropped to 3 again and Ive been sleeping all night with max one bed exit each night.
