What do I change/what next?
Hey Folk,
I am on Day 18 of my therapy. My AHI is under 2 every night. I now understand that while my AHI is good, that doesn't mean my sleep quality is good. So I really don't know what else to do, if anything. Of the 18 days I have had, maybe 3-4 days, I felt good to great. However, that was during the first week. Since I have felt quite awful. On the days I felt great, I felt like a different person. It was amazing. I can also say my Blood pressure is now ALWAYS normal. My IBS is also GONE. Clearly, I think, I am having a lot of arousals, unrelated to Apneas. Other things to note about me. I take mirtazapine at night. Other than that I don't know what else would be affecting my sleep other than that. I have tried to go without the mirtazapine but then I have even more trouble sleeping. Other possible mitigating factors:
- My dogs in and out of bed
- My wife.
- Mental facilities. I have Tinnitus. But I habituated to that and it doesn't bother me anymore so I don't feel like it is affecting my sleep. It used to, but not anymore
- The N20 Nasal mask has made a laceration on my under nose that opens up every night. I have ordered a full face mask to see if that helps.
I have some Sleep HQ data. I would love to post it so you all could see, but it says I can't since I am brand new.
What if any difference is there, in those reports?
Only things I can think to try going forward:
- Switch to fixed pressure (i have been on Autoset)
- Change nothing and hope I start sleeping deeper and get used to the mask
- Other.
- Sleep in a different room than my wife and dogs?
- I have followed up with my sleep specialist for an appt tomorrow. The first doctor I went to swore I have narcolepsy. The 2nd was appalled that the first doctor came to that conclusion without proper testing.
RE: What do I change/what next?
We prefer you post a
OSCAR chart. It's somewhat hard to advise without seeing data.
There are links in my signature line to guide you, and you should have no issue if using the Attachment Feature.
As far as your sleeping arrangements, do whatever is necessary to make your bedroom and sleep conditions as comfortable as possible. As much as I love dogs, I personally could not sleep with dogs that were in and out of bed all night.
If you have the capability to sleep by yourself and your wife agrees, then do it.
Pay attention to the "laceration" under your nose. Use some antibiotic ointment during the day, and a lanolin cream at night. This should promote healing.
Once you get some
OSCAR charts posted, we can better direct you.

Now that you have made 4 posts, you should be able to post a link to your SleepHQ data.

Apnea Board Monitors are members who help oversee the smooth functioning of the Board. They are also members of the Advisory Committee which helps shape Apnea Board's rules & policies. RE: What do I change/what next?
Just tried!
I got this:
- "I'm sorry, brand new members are not allowed to post links in this forum until they have 4 posts."

The security database can take a few hours to update after you have reached the minimum post count.

RE: What do I change/what next?
Just tired again to post this morning. Got the same message. I have an appointment with a sleep specialist today. Hopefully they can review my data.
My AHI was .97 last night. Still feel like am walking in slow motion. My breathing looked pretty good on the Flow rate.

Yes it's very strange. Anytime I try to post a link (dropbox of Oscar Graphs, SleepHQ graphs) I get the same error message as posted above. :-(
RE: What do I change/what next?
Went to my sleep specialist today.
Long story short she does not think I have narcolepsy (the first guy I saw thought I did). In fact, she wouldn't really want to order a PSG or MSLT. But she's going to because she wants to get that thought out of my mind. She mentioned that sleepiness and fatigue or two different things. The way I described my language to her she said was fatigue and not sleepiness. She said I was treating my obstructive apnea very well and was in full compliance. She was pleased with the results there.
My score on the Epsworth scale was around six points lower. She really did not feel that I have narcolepsy. Of course, depression can come into it. My mother is dying. And I was depressed before that. So at least this would be one thing I could knock off and focus on other things. I felt pretty satisfied with her explanation. I have an audio recording of the meeting. I'm almost of the mind of posting that.
On the off chance that I do have narcolepsy. It would show up on the test hopefully.

You do not post a link. You first take a screenshot using F12. Then after you write your post you click at the bottom of the page to add an attachment. The attachment is the screenshot you took.
