machine died! Now new doctor and new machine

I was  diagnosed in 2010 and life was good with my machine and me. Then two nights ago it left me with loud beeps flashing lights and service required message. Thanks to what I read on here I've said my goodbyes and have contacted my doctor. Well, turns out that doctor (the specialist) left as well. So now i have to see a new doctor and get a new machine. I like my PRSO but would want the latest greatest with a few upgrades. Humidifier And heated hose for starters. How do I get script written just right? What is the new Philips? Thanks Trish6hundred day three without and I'm starting to feel the effects greatly. I have doctor visit on Monday for a "consultation" then probably have to wait a week to get sleep study done. Then a few more days to have that sent to the doctor just so he can write the script (you know the one I'm going to give him :-)) so I can get the machine I want.

Honestly if you are not opposed to paying out of pocket, you can get a Dreamstation APAP for less than $450USD online. I'd do that rather than wait.

If I get any more irritable or irritating which ever word my wife used she may buy it for me. She did offer to hold a pillow over my face until I fall asleep. I said she had to promise to remove the pillow and she smiled and smiled and I'm sleeping down stairs now with the door locked.

I'm so glad I found this site wish I would have found it sooner.

I guess this is a good reminder to us to be in communication with our Primary Care Managers (our main doctor) about our sleep apnea, so when it comes time for a new machine they can more easily feel comfortable writing the script without making us prove the need again.

The DreamStation Auto Cpap DSX500T11 with heated humidifier and heated hose is available complete on Amazon for $405 and up. Most of those suppliers are DMEs in real life that fill out their sales by offering discounted sales online. You should carefully consider the amount of time and money that might be required to see the doctor, get a sleep study and obtain a machine that may or may not be as good as this one. The Dreamstation is a direct replacement for your PRS1 550 Auto, with all the upgrades and features you said you wanted. Set the pressure to your old prescription and go.

FWIW, your sleep apnea is going nowhere. A new sleep study is not going to help anything but the clinic's bottom line. If you have any records from your first study, or copes of your prescription, that is usually sufficient to avoid future studies. It is very important (as you are finding) to retain these records personally, as doctors and clinics seem to disappear in time.

If you need a machine to bridge to one covered by insurance, don't overlook your local Craigslist. It's not a bad idea to have a second machine on standby, just in case.
