mouth tape
I"m a mouth breather so I'm using a chin strap along with the N20 memory foam cushion. I've always been uncomfortable with the though of taping my mouth shut. What happens if I have to sneeze or cough? I'm hoping you can give me some advice on how to go about getting comfortable with mouth taping and what tapes are best. thanks.

RE: mouth tape
I have been a mouth breather the whole time I have used Cpap therapy which is about 25 years. I started taping way back then when it was considered taboo and dangerous to mouth tape because of medical concerns. Now it seems that many people are doing it without any problems. I used to tape up until I started using Somnifix mouth strips a few years ago. I just couldn't find a tape that wouldn't tear my skin when pulling it off. Even with the Somnifix strips I still had a lot of leaks. Then last summer I started using Cover All stretch tape and I love it. My leaks are almost non-existent now. I still have to be careful and take it slow when pulling it off but I don't seem to have any more problems tearing my skin. When I sneeze or cough the tape always stays sealed. I always dog ear one corner just in case I have to pull it off quickly. Hope this helps.

RE: mouth tape
I use 3M micro pore tape and I put petroleum jelly or chap stick on my lips.
Is cover all tape a brand or type of tape? I have TJM and have been wondering if mouth taping is causing issues. Using a more flexible tape would be great. -d

RE: mouth tape
I just do the one strip vertical, right down the center. It’s just an incentive to keep my mouth shut.
Easy to sip from a straw it you need. Also I have a beard and mustache and no problem. 1/2 wide 2 inch long Johnson & Johnson medical tape. Don’t need to completely seal the mouth like most do.

RE: mouth tape
It is Cover Roll stretch tape by BSN Medical. The roll is 2" x 10 yards.

RE: mouth tape
Cover Roll Stretch tape is the best I have ever used. Seals well and doesn't rip your face off when removing.
I am not an expert...just a long time user.

Cover Roll on Amazon. If I think there will be an issue that damages my lips, I moisten them before I put it on and also as I remove it. Although it is technically not necessary to use an FFM if you are mouth-taping, I continue to use my F-20 as it allows for a tight seal.

RE: mouth tape
For my first 4 years of CPAP, I used a nasal mask (p10/P30i) and didn't need to tape. Then about a year and a half ago, for some unknown reason, I started mouth breathing.
Like you, I found the idea of mouth-taping uncomfortable and stressful. But I dislike the idea of a full-face mask even more distasteful, plus I didn't want to go through the ordeal os shopping for a comfortable leak free FF-mask. So I started taping. And......... no big deal. Cover Roll Stretch has been great for me.

RE: mouth tape
Mouth tape adjustment can be different for everyone. You can start with a small amount and work up. I might try the Cover Roll and cut it lengthwise; I currently use and really like the Buteyko sheets. Pursing your lips helps avoid leaks; folding over a corner helps with removal; and if it's too sticky after sitting a while, stick it to something else once or twice first.

RE: mouth tape
I had cover roll tape and cut it lengthwise. It didn't work for me.
Now I'm using the full 2 inch width. It's much easier to put on. But it's tough to get off. I'll "un-sticky" it and see if I find it easier to remove.
