questions about a generator

RE: questions about a generator

I was thinking about getting a generator to run my apap because I have frequent power outages. (One lasted 2 days - weather related) I have a ResMed Airsense 10.

So my questions are:
Have any of you run your cpap with a generator?
Which type would you recommend?
Are they loud so my condo neighbor would hear it running?
How many nights could I use it?

I've never used one - never seen one, so any information you offer will not be too elementary.

Thanks in advance,
Sleepytimegal

i thought i saw they had battery power and maybe other addons you could get

it is not clear taht a ups back up is compatible as they do not put out sine waves
possibly a large car battery and the battery converter they seem to sell would be best

you need about 100watts for say 8 hours
round that up to 1kwh
and you can compare battery capacity or other to see if it would work

RE: questions about a generator
I use battery backup often. It is not without work on your part. Do you have a place for a small gen-set to run safely ? Gas storage and use safely ? a long cord to hook it up ? Will someone take during your power outage ?

If the power is out and you put a sign on it that it is running needed medical equipment maybe it will not be bothered. Talk to your neighbors about why you have it. When not sleeping it can run lights and a frig if sized right. It is something that can be rotated around to keep the neighbors food cold. That might make it less of a problem.

Storage and keeping it ready for use take some learning.

Keep seeking information. Sleep-well

As mentioned earlier, a large car battery is NOT a good choice.  For a variety of reasons.  Those batteries are designed for short bursts of power not extended use during the night.  It would be dead and unchargeable after a couple of uses.  Also they can be prone to leak fumes.  A sealed Deep Cycle AGM battery like what would be used in a motorized scooter or wheelchair is a much better choice.  It doesn't have to be huge and extremely heavy if you are not running your humidifier and heated hose. There were already some good suggestions made early on in this thread by some others.
