RE: ASV Machine - ajack - 02-09-2018 Dave has given some good advice on masks and such. If you can get a seal with 20cm, when you are awake and rolling over on your side and moving around. It should be okay when you are asleep. Have you got the hose going over your head and behind you? Hose drag can be an issue. RE: ASV Machine - LarryRapp - 02-09-2018 Ajack, if I am lying on my back, hose connects to machine on my right on a night table. I just ordered a thingy which gets the hose up in the air. I don't know if I toss and turn but maybe the thing will help. I got the DME to send me a large P20. I don't know if it is a foam or silicone but I don't think it matters. RE: ASV Machine - ajack - 02-09-2018 This is some of the masks I have tried. Once you get to know the difference in how to fit them, with youtube 'mask fit' videos and the info here. it's a matter of keep trying till you get one that works, I finished up on a f20 silicon, I haven't tried the foam one. https://i.imgur.com/lK4Prnp.jpg RE: ASV Machine - LarryRapp - 02-09-2018 Ajack, wow you've been through a few! The problem I have is a little different. I've fitted about 3 or 4 but the problem is AFTER. I get them to fit properly and then I go to sleep. THAT's when I get leaks! So far, though, all my masks have been FFM. It used to be that Keene had a lady come over. Now they want me to drive to Berlin. That's 1 hour 20 min each way. Because of my stroke, I shouldn't drive which means my wife has to drive and I don't want her to. RE: ASV Machine - ajack - 02-09-2018 I would try and duplicate your sleeping positions using cpap 20cm or the machine mask fit pressure function. Try and get the mask to leak. Hold the mask and move it in circles, twist it a bit. Another thing is to loosen the strap and just use your hand to set the position and pressure, they adjust the straps to this. Also, when you wake up, be aware of your head position and where you are leaking from. If you have false teeth and cheek leaking, a heat and bite mouth guard may provide the support for the mask and be good for your gums to have a rest from the dentures. This is the one I used when trying to get a nasal mask to work, It's top and bottom and you can remove the plug afterwards and breath through the hole. I say it should not hurt to own and use one. It eliminates the chance of the hose causing any fit and seal issues. Kudos, Larry. PS that is a bit of a problem on driving there. It's a shame they stopped home visits. RE: ASV Machine - LarryRapp - 02-09-2018 I've done that (getting the mask to leak under 20 cm pressure). I can make the leaks stop but I really have to tighten the straps. I don't think you should ever tighten the straps that much. Maybe I'm wrong. This is VERY subjective. Noticing your wake-up is a very good idea but also very hard to do! I almost always have ll's near the end of a night's sleep. I'll keep trying although I have big hopes for the thingy I ordered. I don't think the hose goes over my head. I'll try to try that tonight. RE: ASV Machine - ajack - 02-09-2018 I edited my post to add about dentures, I think you may have missed it because I didn't refresh and missed the replies. It is very subjective to what feels too tight. If it hurts the next morning, it's too tight. If you have to over tighten the straps you may need another mask. You are actually trying to loosen the mask as much as possible. The straps are to keep it blowing off your face. It should rise and fall a bit, with the change of pressure over your head with a bit of slack, then under the pillow back to the machine, should be enough to see if it's the problem RE: ASV Machine - LarryRapp - 02-09-2018 Ajack and Dave - doesn't matter about dentures - I don't have any. I will try having the hose go over my head and stuffed in the pillows - maybe that will work. Keene called about sending me a medium mask. Well, I didn't get it and therefore it is not opened. I think they can swap it. Now to get through the weekend. Sheesh! I am pretty sure that the amount of tightening I had to do was way too much. RE: ASV Machine - SarcasticDave94 - 02-09-2018 Wow, sorry to hear they didn't get it to you yet. Definitely, don't tighten till it hurts. I sincerely hope you get this straightened out ASAP. Do what you think is best for now until you get the mask seal size and/or material changed. Have a great weekend despite this therapy circus. When you are able to, stop and get a coffee as well. |
