We very much appreciate all your efforts. This is an international board, plus those inquiries will give good insights to other country users. It's very interesting how individual countries, agencies and associations are responding to the Philips recall. Many of us have benefited from the insight gained as a result of your inquiries and news postings. Many thanks for all the time that you spent doing that. RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - btreger - 10-15-2021 LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION New information contained in this article is new; Remember the Trump Administration’s mishandling of ventilators at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic? According to Wikipedia, in April 2020, the United States Department of Health & Human Services entered into a contract with Philips Respironics for 43,000 bundled Trilogy Evo Universal ventilator (EV300) hospital ventilators. In March 2020 ProPublica published a series of articles on the Philips ventilator contract. It reported that The White House paid up to $500 Million Too Much for These Ventilators, as per Congressional Investigators, and a House panel asked the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General to investigate evidence of fraud in the deal negotiated by trade adviser Peter Navarro. In response to ProPublica, a congressional investigation into the acquisition of the Philips ventilators found "evidence of fraud, waste, and abuse. The deal negotiated by Navarro had resulted in an over-payment to Philips by the US government of "hundreds of millions." https://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/legal-news/CPAP-Lung-Cancer/lengthy-recall-results-in-cpap-sleep-machine-class-action-23489.html RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - Neelix - 10-15-2021 (10-15-2021, 11:36 AM)btreger Wrote: I find you somewhat amusing. Please don't mistake my curiosity for hostility. -Neelix RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - btreger - 10-16-2021 Regarding my post yesterday; LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION Post #1573 The reason for posting this was not to make any kind of political statement. It was meant to show not only did Philips potentially inflict serious medical exposure on all its CPAP line of products to its customers. It is now using our own tax dollars, to pay for all the new DS2 machines that are being sent out as replacements. "It reported that The White House paid up to $500 Million Too Much for These Ventilators, as per Congressional Investigators" RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - Robotazky - 10-17-2021 (10-16-2021, 09:59 AM)btreger Wrote: Regarding my post yesterday; You seem new to both government waste in general, and government waste during a crisis. We have a government right now saying on top of the $7 trillion we’ve spent in 3 years that we must spend $3.5 trillion more. During the early stages of the pandemic there were many, many billions thrown at it. Some stupidly wasteful, and some doing the best they could to deal with it. Just be glad Philips has the money to fix the machines and move on. RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - ST Dog - 10-17-2021 I would DW how they hwt $500m too much. But gpr 43k units, that $11.7k each. I don't know what they normally cost. Is that 10% more? 50% 100%. And how much is too much in an emergency? For comparison, what does an ER busy cost compared to seeing your normal doctor by appointment? Or emergency surgery vs a scheduled procedure? Who else could/would have meet the need and at what price? RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - btreger - 10-18-2021 The Trump Administration Is Backing Out of a $647 Million Ventilator Deal After ProPublica Investigated the Price The government overpaid by hundreds of millions for Philips ventilators says a House investigation spurred by ProPublica reporting. Now that deal is off and Congress is scrutinizing other coronavirus deals made by trade adviser Peter Navarro. https://www.propublica.org/article/the-trump-administration-is-backing-out-of-a-647-million-ventilator-deal-after-propublica-investigated-the-price Administration Ends Ventilator Contract with Philips After Subcommittee Reveals Waste, Fraud and Abuse, Saving Taxpayers Over $400 Million “American taxpayers deserve to have their money well spent. The Subcommittee’s investigation revealed that incompetent negotiations by top Trump Administration officials, like Peter Navarro, wasted hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars. This week, we clawed back more than $400 million from pandemic profiteers, and we’re coming for more.” https://oversight.house.gov/news/press-releases/administration-ends-ventilator-contract-with-philips-after-subcommittee-reveals The White House paid up to $500M too much for these ventilators, Congressional investigators say Citing “evidence of fraud, waste, and abuse,” a congressional subcommittee investigating the federal government’s purchase of $646.7 million worth of Philips ventilators has asked the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General to launch its own investigation of the deal. https://www.fiercehealthcare.com/hospitals/white-house-paid-up-to-500m-too-much-for-these-ventilators-congressional-investigators White House blocks Navarro from testifying to House panel about ventilator deal The White House has blocked trade adviser Peter Navarro from testifying at a House oversight hearing Wednesday about a partially canceled Defense Production Act contract to manufacture ventilators. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/09/14/peter-navarro-ventilator-deal-testimony-blocked-414799 RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - btreger - 10-18-2021 Philips CPAP recall still chips away at earnings, with a nearly 40% drop in Q3 connected care sales Even as Philips began the process of repairing and replacing the ventilators affected by its ongoing recall of the devices, the Medtech giant still saw its sales slip in the third quarter of this year, the first full quarter to feel the effects of the recall initiated in mid-June. On its own, Philips’ connected care business—the domain of its CPAP, BiPAP, and other continuous and noncontinuous ventilators—faced a steep drop-off, registering a 39% decrease in sales compared to the same period in 2020, when the respiratory machines were in especially high demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic. https://www.fiercebiotech.com/medtech/philips-cpap-recall-still-chipping-away-at-earnings-nearly-40-drop-q3-connected-care-sales RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - btreger - 10-18-2021 Legal action starts after sleeping devices’ potentially toxic foam ‘degrades’, inhaled by wearers Ashlea Kunowski and Alex Chapman 7NEWS Published: 17/10/2021 Updated: Monday, 18 October 2021 2:48 PM AEDT Legal action has begun for one of Australia’s largest electronics companies over concerns sleeping devices have made thousands of people unwell.
