RE: Soon to start CPAP - Question on dehydration - Gideon - 01-19-2019 The Oxygen by itself is better than no oxygen and no CPAP. Just realize that the CPAP is helping to splint open your airway. Fred RE: Soon to start CPAP - Question on dehydration - Sleeprider - 01-20-2019 I was actually expecting you to do this from time to time. You have the ability to monitor SpO2 so you can compare the benefits of CPAP vs oxygen alone. Good luck! RE: Soon to start CPAP - Question on dehydration - SleepyTime - 01-22-2019 I have a similar problem with the humidifier going full blast and no water left in the morning. Xylimelts was suggested and I used it on and off. For me it's not a real solution. You are supposed to stick the brown side of the round tablet type against your upper or lower gums above the molars. Well they stick all right but they didn't dissolve when I was asleep. The spot where the tablet stuck was moist and maybe af few cm2 more, but only when I woke up (about 3x a night) was I able to spread the stuff across the mouth. It will last a couple of hours maybe. The slime from the dissolved Xylimelts will form a cake-like substance with a weird taste. As I said, I keep trying it on and off, but it isn't a solution for me. Golly, my nasal passages stayed open, what a strange sensation! I was able to do a sinus rinse, too, without getting it too wet. On the oximetry I had a radical difference between Sun. night (no CPAP, no oxygen) and Mon. night (4 hrs. CPAP & oxygen, and a nasal strip). Will post it below. I've ordered a trial 3-pack of cannulae, since the drugstore didn't have them. I'm still so limited by gut pain that I went all the way through Sun. night with no CPAP (and no oxygen) and a LOT of throat gunk. Gummed-up larynx = laryngopharyngeal reflux. Gut pain and inflamed sinuses go with it. I see from my reading that LPR can improve from dietary modifications; that's better than being told to take PPIs. Hey I've turned my diet over and around so many times, that's nothing new. I have so many food sensitivities that involve some contaminant or other in the food supply! Oximetry reports show us the difference between Sun. night (no CPAP, no oxygen) and Mon. night (4 hrs. CPAP & oxygen, plus a nasal strip for the first time): [attachment=9969] [attachment=9970] Last night it was obvious that my shallow breathing is due to gut pain. No doubt they have several ingredients I wouldn't tolerate well. RE: Soon to start CPAP - Question on dehydration - Sleeprider - 01-22-2019 When you get the cannulas, I hope we can compare a night withoxygen on and no CPAP. I think you will be pleased. RE: Soon to start CPAP - Question on dehydration - Gideon - 01-22-2019 I may be missing something, cannulas? I think you will be pleased. I'm sure I'll be doing that, on a night when I go to bed with gut pain and it continues on through the night. Swallowing air seems to be just a side-show. The main problem is LPReflux, aka "airway reflux", aka "silent reflux". Without that, I wouldn't be swallowing air, and my apnea diagnosis would be much different.
