My wife has severe dry eye as well (as well as irregularities on both sides of the cornea). She has had good luck with Restasis which under our insurance requires prior authorization. Her doctor also recommended Refresh celluvisc lubricating gel drops as well as the Regaine MGD eye drops both available around $45 for a 3 pack on that big on-line mail company. You could probably find them at Wallyworld or any of the discount drug houses.

I developed dry eye. Wake up at night and eyes are dried out and stuck. Went to a great eye doc for a dry eye evaluation. My problem is the oil glands ... not tears. You may love your eye drops because you have a different problem than I have. I had a 15 minute procedure to massage those oil glands in my eye lids and its been good for a couple of years now. Probably go back and get it done again soon. Anyway, here is how I treat my dry eye problem.
Nighttime preservative free therapy: Systane Hydration PF drops. If you can't find them then use Refresh Celluvisc
Nighttime preservative therapy: GenTeal Tears nighttime ointment. If you can't find it then use Systane Gel drops.
Daytime therapy: bruder mask every morning for 10-14 minutes
The GenTeal ointment is hands down the best treatment for oil problems. But it contains a preservative that is worse than the dry eye problem I have.

Thanks TexasDon. Glad to hear someone that has had that done. My doctor wanted to do it. On YouTube there were presentations that stated it required the doctor to follow up by manually opening the glands that did not respond with a needle. My doctor was only going to have assistant run machine on me so I did not go for it yet.

No needles. Numbing drops on eyes. Then doc uses qtip to examine the glands under an eye scope. Then the machine. It has lines with pads that fit beneath eye lids and on top of them. The machine runs for about 15 minutes. I thought it was like a nice sauna experience; warm and soothing. The pads inside/outside the eye lids warm and squeeze the glands. Afterwards, the doc uses qtips again and eye scope to examine glands and see if they are all open nicely. Your eyes will feel dry for a day or two after and then be super nice. They feel dry cuz the machine squeezes out all the oil and your glands need to recharge. I think the machine is called LipiFlow. I thought it was awesome!
